Maccabi Haifa and Young Boys played to a goalless draw in UEFA Champions League first leg playoff round action at Sammy Ofer Stadium. The decisive tie will now move to Switzerland where the Greens will try to come away with the win and punch their ticket to the group stages of the prestigious competition for the second season in a row.
“We wanted to win,” Haifa coach Mesay Dego said after the match. “Over the last few days I said that we were going to play a strong team that would pressure us. We will now travel to Switzerland after a draw and we need to have the same focus and I believe that we will return to Israel with a sweet taste in everyone’s mouths.”
Keeper Itamar Nitzan also looked back at the draw, “We wanted to come out of this game with a better result, but it looks like we will need to do the job away from home. We’ll learn from our mistakes and try to win the game.”
