Hapoel Jerusalem defeated Hapoel Tel Aviv 90-72 thanks to a 15-0 in the fourth quarter to record their second league win in a row to open the season. Tel Aviv kept the game close throughout the first 32 minutes of the contest, but Nimrod Levi proved to be unstoppable especially in the final frame to give the Capital City Reds the victory ahead of their first Champions League clash in Turkey at Bandirma on Wednesday night.
Maccabi Tel Aviv used a solid second half to pull away from a pesky Hapoel Eilat 102-86 at Yad Eliyahu. The yellow-and-blue sported five players in double digits including Othello Hunter with 20 points and Elijah Bryant who scored 17 points against his former team. The Red Sea side received solid showings from Kyvon Davenport who led all scorers with 21 points and veteran point guard Avi Ben Chimol who dropped 19 points in the loss.
Hapoel Holon easily got by Maccabi Ashdod 103-86 as Amit Simhon started with 22 points while going 5 from 6 from behind the 3-point line. Visiting Ashdod tried to keep the game tight but Sharon Drucker’s much deeper Holon squad was able to break away in the second half to cruise to the 17-point victory. Marcus Foster who was making his Holon debut notched 20 points while Latavious Williams recorded a double double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Elijah Johnson led Ashdod with 17 points as Stu Douglass and Josh Freund each added 12 points in the loss.
Maccabi Rishon defeated Hapoel Beer Sheva 75-69 in the southern capital as they erased a 15 point second quarter deficit to secure their first win of the young season. Alex Hamilton, who played all 40 minutes scored 26 points and Johnathan Williams dropped 17 points in the win. TJ Williams led Beer Sheva with 24 points while John Petrucelli chipped in with 16 points in the defeat.
Nes Ziona travelled up north to Nahariya and took home a 79-71 win as Corey Fisher starred with 20 points in the victory. Jeremy Hollowell checked in with a double double of 13 points and 11 rebounds while Israeli sensation Golan Gutt added 16 points in the win. Jerel McNeal (13p) and Dominic Waters (12p) led the way for the hosts Nahariya.
