Hapoel Jerusalem sweeps aside Hapoel Eilat 99-73

Hapoel Jerusalem ended their losing streak and jumped from ninth to second place in the league with an impressive win over Hapoel Eilat.

After four losses in their last five games Jerusalem needed to put in a big performance and did exactly that with a 99-73 win.

After a tight first half the Reds dominated in the second, Josh Duncan led with 25 points while Bar Timor took a career high 23.

Hapoel had their own strong performers as Aladi Aminu picked up 18 and Kevin Palmer netted 17.

Hapoel Jerusalem showed their quality in the first quarter netting some great baskets, but Eilat didn’t fall too far behind with Aminu’s 12 points keeping the visitors competitive.

Hapoel Eilat edged the second quarter by a narrow one-point margin. The Reds’ strength was through their team play which saw them pick up 17 points. However, Eilat were again led by one man – this time Palmer.

The visitors continued to play strong in third quarter and brought the difference down to just three points at the five-minute mark. But the Reds dominated in the last few minutes of the quarter and ended things up at 75-59.

In the last quarter the home side dominated, playing excellent basketball and really put on a show for the fans as they came close to racking up a triple digit scoreline.

Jerusalem’s Duncan said after the match: “We had a lot of guys banged up and pushing through different things but that just shows the character of the team. Nobody is making excuses and tonight we just made a great effort which was something we really needed especially after coming off a few losses. I think we really needed that and hopefully we can keep the momentum going.

”This win for sure helps us. It was great to have that feeling that we were playing well and sharing the ball, playing good defense. Yeah we made some mistakes but that’s part of the game. We just stuck at it and kept playing hard.”

In other action Bnei Herzliya defeated Hapoel Tel Aviv 70-68 in a tight contest throughout the 40 minutes. Herzeliya, the home side received wonderful play by Stephen Dennis with 26 points and James Singelton who picked up a double-double scoring 16 points and adding 12 rebounds. Jeff Allen put home 16 points for the Reds as both Robert Rothbart and John Williamson scored 12 points in the losing cause.
