Maccabi & Jerusalem with blowout wins, Hapoel TLV wins 1st of season, Eilat shocks Holon! Israel Basketball Gameday 5 Highlights & Recaps


Hapoel Jerusalem downed Hapoel Beer Sheva 108-74 as seven of Coach Oded Katash’s players scored in double digits in the win. Both squads came out of the gate on fire but the hosts eventually began to pull away midway in the second quarter an never looked back in the 34 point victory. Bar Timor earned MVP honors with 12 points, 6 assists and 6 rebounds, Tamir Blatt added 16 points hitting four triples while James Feldeine chipped in with 15 points. Spencer Weisz led led Beer Sheva with 21 points, marksman John Petrucelli scored 20 points hitting 4 of 5 from beyond the arc and TJ Williams scored 16 points in the defeat.

Maccabi Tel Aviv defeated Nahariya 86-65 as they remained perfect in Israel Winner League action. The northern squad tried to stay close to Ioannis Sfairpoulos’s squad but the yellow-and-blue’s quality overwhelmed Danny Franco’s overmatched team. Deni Avdija earned Most Valuable Player honors with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists, Jake Cohen scored 14 points, Elijah Bryant added 12 points while John DiBartolomeo chipped in with 10 points and 5 assists. Jerel McNeal led Nahariya with 17 points and Jeff Adrien scored 14 points in the loss.

Hapoel Tel Aviv dropped Hapoel Gilboa Galil 85-68 as coach Ariel Beit Halachmi was victorious in his return to Gan Ner. New recruit Lenzelle Smith Jr. starred in his debut for the Reds with 25 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds, Yam Madar added 15 points in front of Los Angeles Lakers International Scout Antonio Maceiras, while Tomer Ginat had 13 points in the club’s first win of the season. Edgar Sosa led the host’s with 21 points while Justin Tillman scored 12 points and pulled down 15 rebounds.

Hapoel Eilat shocked Hapoel Holon 90-81 as the Red Sea City squad picked up a hard earned victory. Rafi Menco set his career high with 24 points, Jared Terrell added 17 points while Kyvon Davenport dropped 14 points in the win for Arik Alfasi’s side. Latavious Williams led Sharon Drucker’s team with 14 points and 10 rebounds, Marcus Foster scored 12 points and Guy Pnini chipped in with 11 points in the loss. Following the game Holon added guard Troy Caupain who played part of las season with the NBA’s Orlando Magic.

Maccabi Rishon Le’Zion snuck by Maccabi Ashdod 67-66 thanks to Jordan Swing’s winner with 40 seconds left in game at Beit Maccabi. Swing was the star of the show for Guy Goodes’s squad with 22 points and 12 rebounds while Darryl Monroe chipped in with 12 points in the win. Ashdod, who have now lost back to back one point games saw Noah Dickerson put up another strong performance with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Stu Douglass added 13 points in the defeat.

Nes Ziona slipped by Maccabi Haifa 87-84 as the visitors used a 27-12 first quarter to hang on for the win. Corey Fisher was the high scorer for Nadav Zilberstein’s team with 20 points and 7 assists as Jeff Withey once again recorded a double double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Former Boston Celtics draft pick James Young led the Greens with 26 points in the defeat.
