Israel fell to Austria 3-1 at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium as the Blue & White’s Euro 2020 qualifying campaign dreams for all intents and purposes have come to an end. Eran Zahavi opened the scoring for Coach Andi Herzog’s side with a gorgeous strike but three unanswered goals did in Israel once again.
Zahavi sent a beauty of a ball off the left goal post and in to give Israel a 1-0 lead which was short lived as Valentino Lazaro drew Austria even in the 41st minute when he made his way by the Blue & White defense and then promptly beat a helpless Ofir Marciano as the sides went into the break even at 1-1.
Martin Hinteregger gave the hosts a 2-1 lead in the 56th minute when Omri Ben Harush who had just come on for Taleb Tawhatha failed to close out the centre back in the box allowing him the chance to easily score from in close. Marcel Sabitzer put the cherry on top of the tidy victory in the 88th minute to hand Austria a clinical 3-1 win over an overmatched Israel.
Israel will host Latvia on Tuesday night in Beer Sheva and will then welcome Poland in November while they will end their campaign at North Macedonia.
