Maccabi Tel Aviv jumped into second place in the league with an 81-73 win over Hapoel Holon at the Toto Arena. After a tight first half the visitors blasted the third quarter by a nine point margin before holding Hapoel to a two point lead in the fourth.
Holon were led by Will Clynburn who put in an excellent performance with 26 points and 8 rebounds. But Maccabi’s quality showed out as Sylvan Landsberg scored 21 points while Jordan Farmer and Brian Randle also broke into double figures.
Meanwhile, Hapoel Jerusalem returned to the top of the table with a solid 86-72 win over Ironi Nes Ziona. The Reds came back strong after a midweek loss to Galatasary with Donta Smith and Israeli Yotam Halperin dominating the parquet with 19 and 18 points respectively while Dior Fisher pulled down 10 rebounds.
Despite the loss Ironi, who slid into eleventh place, can take heart from Daymon Simpson’s performance with 19 points and 12 rebounds as well as Pakwan Adwin who netted 16 points with 9 rebounds.
Bnei Herzilya picked up their first win of the season as they dominated Maccabi Rishon Lezion 84-67. After a tight first quarter Herzilya shocked the home fans as they racked up a 30-9 margin in the second. Drew Crawford put 24 points on the board to help the visitors climb into eighth place and dish out a first loss of the season to Maccabi.
Maccabi Haifa climbed to third spot with a tight 86-81 win over bottom-of-the-table Maccabi Kiryat Gat. Gregory Vargas dominated for the Greens with 25 points and 8 assists while Oz Blayzer pulled down 10 rebound with 12 points.
Ironi Nahariya picked up a 80-75 win, their third of the season, at Hapoel Tel Aviv. The visitors were trailing by seven points going into the final quarter but turned things around with a big performance in the last 10 minutes. The pressure is now going up on the Reds’ coach Oded Katash who has only guided his side to one victory in the league.
Maccabi Ashdod picked up their first win of the season with a solid 93-82 scoreline against Hapoel Eilat. Isaiah Swann scored 34 points with an astonishing 9 three-pointers while Charles Thomas added 25 points.
