Milano runs all over Maccabi 87-68 to cruise to the win: Recap + Highlights

Maccabi Tel Aviv fell to Milano 87-68 in Euroleague play as the the Italian squad ran all over the Yellow & Blue outclassing Ioannis Sfairpoulos’s team for the entire 40 minutes to notch the win.

Ettore Messina’s crew scored at will shooting 75% from two and 41% from three to absolutely dominate a lifeless Maccabi. Michael Roll playing against his former club scored an efficient 8 points against the Yellow & Blue as the loss drops Maccabi to 10-13 while Milano moves into second place with a 16-8 record on these season.

Kevin Punter led the way for Milano with 15 points, Kyle Hines scored 14 points, Shavon Shields checked in with 11 points and 9 rebounds, Sergio Rodriguez scored his 3,000th point in the Euroleague and ended the game with 10 points and 9 assists in the win. Othello Hunter scored 16 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, Tyler Dorsey added 11 points and Chris Jones chipped in with 10 points in the loss.

Othello Hunter got the proceedings underway for Maccabi Tel Aviv with a midrange jumper but Shavon Shields came right back with a 3-pointer and a turnaround in the paint as he picked on Oz Blayzer early on. Yovel Zoosman found the basket for the Yellow & Blue but Gigi Datome beta the shot clock with a floater on the baseline to give Milano an 8-4 lead midway through the first quarter. Kyle Hines hit a jumper any the free throw line, Vladimir Micov nailed a corner triple, while Michael Roll added one as well but Chris Jones scored an off balance jumper and Ante Zizic scored in the paint, however, the hosts took a 21-12 lead after ten minutes.

Caleb Tarczewski opened the second quarter with free throws and a bucket, Kevin Punter added to his points total with a basket, Hunter put back an offensive board for Maccabi but Punter blew by Dragan Bender and went straight to the hoop for an easy layup to up their lead to 30-16 with 5:04 left in the frame. Angelo Caloairo and Hunter put in back to back baskets for Ioannis Sfairopoulos’s squad, Elijah Bryant found points from deep after an 0/10 start for Maccabi but Malcolm Delaney with a 3-pointer along with points inside by Micov and Hines gave Ettore Messina’s team a 39-27 advantage at half-time.

Jones came out of the locker-room with five points and Bryant knocked down a 3-pointer to cut the Milano lead to just 6-points to begin the third quarter but a pair of triples by Datome and one by Punter bumped the advantage up to 50-35 midway through the period. Hines with a pair of baskets kept Milano up, points by Bryant and Jones showed Maccabi still had some sort of life as John Dibartolomeo hit a 3-pointer and Hunter scored inside but Shields with points as well as Micov and Rodriguez to maintain their commanding lead 65-48 after thirty minutes.

Roll got the fourth quarter off and running with a triple while Rodriguez and Hines did more damage as Tyler Dorsey hit free throws and a basket at the other end for Maccabi as they stayed in the hole down 72-59 with 6 minutes left in regulation. Hunter and Blayzer tried to keep the Yellow & Blue close, however points inside by Datome, Punter with a layup, along with points by Rodriguez, Shields and a jumper by their former guard Michael Roll to seal the deal for Milano as they took the 19-point victory.
