Israeli guard Yam Madar is a candidate to play with German club Ratiopharm Ulm for the upcoming season should he not receive a contract to play in the NBA with the Boston Celtics, The Sports Rabbi Josh Halickman and Yakov Meir of Israel HaYom newspaper learned. The 20-year old Madar was selected by the Celtics in the 2020 NBA Draft with the 47th pick in the second round and is currently playing in the Summer League. Also in the running for Madar’s services is Partizan Belgrade in Serbia.
Last season with Hapoel Tel Aviv, Madar scored 17.1 points, grabbed 3 rebounds and handed out 5.2 assists in 30 games. So far in 3 Summer League games with the Celtics the point guard has scored 4.7 points but has had to sit out the last couple with an injury. Ulm will be playing both in the German domestic league along with the EuroCup continental competition and is coached by Jaka Lakovic who has been at the helm since 2019. In his first season as head coach with Ulm, the former Panathinaikos and Barcelona star guard worked with point guard Killian Hayes who was drafted by the Detroit Pistons 7th overall in the 2020 Draft.
does the german team have to buy out his contract as the celtics were required to do?
The German team would need to buy out his contract. The Celtics could help them as can Madar’s family as well but it’s not on Boston’s shoulders.
