Elitzur Ramla announced on Monday that its captain – and national team captain – Eden Rotberg has signed with the club for two years. “We are happy to notify you of the signature of our captain, captain of Team Israel, Eden Rotberg,” the team posted on social media. “Rotberg, the missing piece of the puzzle in our roster, signed for two more years, which we bless. After a successful team and individual championship season, we have no doubt that Eden will lead us to more success.”

“I made the decision with my heart,” Rotberg said. “Despite aspirations this summer to go play in Europe and despite receiving a number of good offers in leading leagues – this is my home.

“After the last year that we got through and after two consecutive championships, there’s one more objective to achieve with Ramla – to return the EuroCup,” Rotberg continued. “After the club has made a huge effort to play in the competition I decided to stay and help my ‘family’. With my friends, the coach and most importantly for the fans and the emblem.

“We have one title to protect [the Israeli league] and two titles to take [the State Cup, currently held by Hapoel Lev Jerusalem after defeating Ramla in last season’s final and the EuroCup] and I’m coming into the season hungry to ‘bring the story to an end’,” Rotberg concluded.

Rotberg leads a loaded roster for the reigning league champions for new coach Muja Tachi, which includes national team star Jennie Simms, Tal Lev, Ofir Lavy, Tslil Vaturi, Ofir Kirshtein and foreign players Patricia Bura (Croatia), Theresa Plaisance (USA) and Adut Bulgak (South Sudan-Canada, who played in Ramla in the 2017-18 season and most-recently played for Maccabi Haifa).

Ramla starts its European campaign against Kibirkstis Vilnius in Lithuania on October 7 and its Israeli League season at home again Bnot Petah Tikvah a week later on October 14.
