3) Hapoel Tel Aviv BC defeated Spirou Charleroi 76-73 in the first game of two in Basketball Champions League Qualifiers for a place in the group stages. The Reds had a quartet of scorers in double figures as James Shuler 14p, Jonathan Holmes 12p/6r, Dallas Moore 12p/4a and Dallis Joyner 12p 6/8 from the field all helped out in the win. Cliff Hammonds dropped 19 points to lead the visitor’s. The second game will be held in Belgium on Monday night at 20:30 Israel time. Head coach Danny Franco spoke about the game, “We could have done some things better, but we won at the end of the day, we have plenty to learn but e will take the win into the second game.”

Nes Ziona defeated Södertälje 72-67 in the first game of FIBA Europe Cup qualifiers. Daequan Cook led the way with 23p going 5/9 from beyond the arc while Chris Dowe added 15 points, 7 assists and 7 rebounds. The second game will be played in Sweden on Wednesday September 26.

4) Preseason Basketball
Maccabi Tel Aviv BC fell to Milano is exhibition basketball action 80-75 as the Yellow & Blue had a tough night from the field going 25/69 for 36% (7/28 from 3). Scottie Wilbekin (15p/4a), Johnny O’Bryant (12p/6r) and Jake Cohen (11p) led the way for Coach Neven Spahija’s squad.

Maccabi Rishon Le’Zion beat Maccabi Ashdod 82-65. Oz Blayzer led the host’s with 18 points while Deshawn Stephens added 16 in the win. Landon Milbourne dropped 16 for Ashdod in the defeat.

Hapoel Holon defeated Hapoel Beer Sheva 82-75 in the southern capital. Khalif Wyatt scored 21 points for Holon as Jakim Donaldson dropped 18 points and pulled down 9 boards to pace Beer Sheva.

5) Israeli NASCAR Driver Alon Day will make his 2018 Cup Season debut on Saturday as he’ll drive the #23 BK Racing Best Bully Sticks Toyota Camry at the Richmond Raceway in Richmond, Virginia. The 26-year-old will race in the Federated Auto Parts 400, his second Cup race following up on last year’s road course race in Sonoma. Day was the 2017 Champion of the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series.
