Saraf stars in Kiryat Ata win, Carter spurs Herzliya to sink Eilat

Kiryat Ata picked up a 100-72 win over Hapoel Haifa as the hosts did as they pleased from the get go to record the victory. Sharon Avrahami’s squad got off to a quick start as 17-year old Ben Saraf had no problem adjusting to first division basketball as he scored points a plenty to help his team take a 57-35 lead at halftime as they cruised to the win.

Saraf and Amin Stevens each scored 19 points while Tomer Porat added 18 points and James Batemon chipped in with 17 points in the win. Mike McGuirl scored 18 points and Amit Gershon put in 16 points in the loss.

“We had a new lineup and practiced for 2.5 weeks so we had an advantage in that area,” Avrahami said. “We played some very good minutes in this game. The team was built as a young group of guys with Israelis like Ben Saraf, Guy Palatin, Tomer Porat and others. We have two very good imports, Amin Stevens and James Batemon and the new player we signed will integrate into the team as fast as possible.”

“We are not ready to play in the league,” Haifa coach Oren Aharoni began. “We had two players who just arrived and they haven’t even practiced with the team. We will need to do things quickly but right now things don’t look good and we are not in the game. We have another game coming up on Thursday and we don’t yet have an identity.”

Bnei Herzliya got by Hapoel Eilat 91-81 as Robert Carter did as he pleased to help lead Dan Shamir’s squad to the win by the Red Sea. Carter dominated the first half for the visitors while Deishuan Booker and Elijah Stewart countered for the hosts to head into the break all knotted up at 41-41. However, Willy Workman and Frederic Bourdillon were able to help Herzliya gain separation in the third quarter as Carter scored at will in the final frame to take the win.

Carter led the way with 35 points, 18 rebounds and a 50 PIR, Bourdillon added 23 points and Workman chipped in with 16 points in the win. Stewart scored 30 points and Booker added 24 points in the loss.

Robert Carter, the game MVP said, “I’m a pretty loyal guy, I signed here and I wanted to come back and finish the league. Israelis love basketball and I wanted to give something back.”
