Maccabi Tel Aviv faces Panathinaikos in what is in essence a do or die Euroleague game as the Yellow & Blue sit one game under .500 at 13-14. With three games remaining, Maccabi is in 9th place and will need to stay within reach of Baskonia who won their Gameday 27 contest over Bamberg and are now 14-13 with a date at home with Neven Spahija’s squad next Thursday night.
One of Panathinaikos’s top players is Nick Calathes who has proven to be unstoppable all season long with a 14.1 points per game average, 8.3 assists and 4 rebounds to arguably be the competition’s MVP.
Head Coach Neven Spahija spike about the Greek star:
“We had so many good players to play against this season and we were able to stop them. I don’t of we are going to do that with him to, but we will do our he’s to do that. Yesterday we saw that big teams have deep rosters and you never know who is going to show up like Marko Guduric who scored 5/6 from 3.”
Jin DiBartolomeo also chimed in about Calathes:
“He’s one of the top players in the Euroleague and he’s in great shape right now and he played well last game. He’s obviously a big focus and big task.”
