Maccabi Tel Aviv continues to roll with 77-55 win over Bayern Munich; Zoosman named MVP

Maccabi Tel Aviv continued to roll at home as they put away Bayern Munich 77-55 to move their Euroleague record to 8-4. The Yellow & Blue controlled the pace of play throughout the first half and held the German squad to just 26 points. But Dejan Radonjic’s team came out strong in the third quarter and pulled to within six points but it wasn’t enough as Ioannis Sfairpoulos’s crew turned up the offense to take the victory.

Scottie Wilbekin led the way with 16 points, Othello Hunter added 15 points, Yovel Zoosman dropped 13 points and Elijah Bryant chipped in with 12 points in ten win. Petteri Koponen and Vladimir Lucic each finished the night with ten points for Bayern in the loss. John DiBartolomeo (pectoral) and Nate Wolters (hamstring) both left the game in the first quarter with injuries and were taken to the hospital for examination.

Tarik Black started strong with 4 quick points while Scottie Wilbekin hit a triple but Vladimir Lucic countered with 4 points and Petteri Koponen scored as Bayern led 11-9 midway through the first quarter. Elijah Bryant hit back to back 3-pointers, Black took Monroe for a ride in the paint and Dorsey hit a floater in the paint to give the Yellow & Blue a 22-18 lead after ten minutes.

Othello Hunter scored a jumper over Greg Monroe from the outside and then found net from the inside while Wilbekin drained a long distance shot and then scored an acrobatic layup as Maccabi extended their lead to 35-22 with five minutes left in the second quarter. Yovel Zoosman put down a baseline dunk to ignite the crowd and followed that up by scoring layup as Ioannis Sfairpoulos’s squad went into halftime with a 41-26 advantage.

Wilbekin opened the third quarter with another patented jumper in the lane, then he hit a corner triple off a Zoosman assist and followed that up with an elbow three to give the Yellow & Blue a 51-28 lead just 2:58 into the frame. Danilo Barthel and Koponen both scored from beyond the arc while Paul Zipser hit a pair of jumpers as Bayern cut the Maccabi lead to 53-47 after thirty minutes.

Hunter scored six quick points to begin the fourth quarter, Zoosman hit a triple as the Yellow & Blue went back up by a dozen points 62-50 with six minutes left in regulation time. Caloiaro scored points from the line and Hunter put on an aerial show to close out a 22 point, 77-55 win.
