Maccabi falls to Fenerbahce 75-65; Dixon, De Colo & Jarell drop the Yellow & Blue

Maccabi Tel Aviv fell 75-65 to Fenerbahce in Euroleague action at Yad Eliyahu as their record dropped to 2-4 on the young season. The Yellow & Blue were in control for the first 25 minutes but stellar shooting from Nando de Colo, Bobby Dixon and Jarell Eddie sewed up the win for the visitors.


Scottie Wilbekin led Maccabi with 23 points, Ante Zizic dropped 11 points and Chris Jones chipped in with 10 in the loss. Bobby Dixon scored 17 points with 5 triples, Nando de Colo notched 13 points and Jarell Eddie added 13 points in the win.

Dragon Bender opened the game up with a triple while Elijah Bryant scored a pair of baskets as Maccabi went up 13-4 midway through the first quarter. Scottie Wilbekin put in a floater but Jarell Eddie and Bobby Dixon drained a 3-pointers and Edgaras Ulanovas hit a jumper as well at the other end to pull within 22-18 after ten minutes of play.

Dixon drilled home another long distance special as did Melih Mahmutologou but Oz Blayzer hit a triple as well while Othello Hunter scored inside as the Yellow & Blue took. 31-26 lead with 4:53 remaining in the second quarter. Jan Vesely ran the fast break to perfection which he finished off with a dunk, Dixon scored his 4th 3-pointer but Wilbekin hit a jumper in the lane to give Maccabi a 38-35 advantage at halftime.


Zizic put the ball in off a rebound and Wilbekin scored his first shot from deep, but Lorenzo Brown and Eddie found the baskets for Fenerbahçe but Ioannis Sfairpoulos’s squad stayed in front 47-43 midway through the third quarter. Brown nailed a triple and de Colo went from midrange but Chris Jones scored a floater and Caloiaro put down a dunk but de Colo free throws put Igor Kokoskov’s team in the lead 56-54 after thirty minutes.

Dixon drilled home yet another 3-pointer to get the 4th quarter underway and Mahmutologou added one as well to put Fener in front 62-54 forcing Maccabi to take a timeout with 9:05 remaining in the final frame. Bryant went from deep but a Dixon layup and points by Pierre gave the visitors a 69-58 advantage with 4:29 to go. Wilbekin once again got into the act with free throws and a 3-pointer but a Vesely basket over Bryant and de Colo triple put the finishing touches on a 75-65 Fenerbahce win.
