Ligat Ha’Al Lower Playoff Round 28 April 11, 2015

Hapoel Haifa 0-1 Hapoel Tel Aviv

Hapoel Haifa has not won in 5 games and Tal Benin’s poor run continued as his goalkeeper Kovar Premsyl committed a massive error late in the game to give Tel Aviv the win. After 80+ minutes of poor football from both sides and few chances, Tel Aviv youngster Matan Lazmi headed off the right wing towards the goal. Kovar assumed Lazmi was going to pass the ball across the box but instead as the Haifa keeper committed one way Lazmi shot the ball fooling the Czech shotstopper and giving the Reds a 1-0 lead. Aner Shechter, 18 year old brother of Israel National team and Maccabi Haifa star Itay Shecter came on in minute 87 for Haifa who had a number of close chances for the hosts but couldn’t find the equalizer. Reds captain Shai Abutbul sat the match out due to his club thinking that he had too many yellow cards which would result in an automatic game on the sidelines, however the club erred and Abutbul still had one yellow card to go.

Hapoel Petach Tikva 2-3 Bnei Sakhnin

Brazilian Diogo Kachuba scored a brace and assisted on the winning goal showing that he has class that is not found everyday in the Ligat Ha’Al. Kachuba fed Feras Magharbeh the ball in the 84th minute to give the visitors the 3-points and they win over Menachem Koretzky and his Petach Tikva side. Gal Arel opened the scoring for the blue and white home team, but Kachuba’s brace and Magharbeh’s strike were enough to hold on after Shachar Hirsch cut the Sakhnin lead to 3-2 in injury time.

Hapoel Raanana 1-2 Maccabi Netanya

Netanya snagged 3-points as Larry Kayode played hero yet again for Roni Levy as his 92nd minute goal stole the show and a draw away from Raanana. Omer Peretz opened the scoring for the yellow and black while captain Eran Levy had numerous chances to add to the lead by halftime but wasn’t able to get the ball past the Raanana keeper. Mamdou Thiam drew the hosts even early in the 2nd half but a late red card to Yaniv Lavi gave a Netanya the opening that Kayode needed to steal the victory in the dying minutes of the match.

Ashdod 0-0 Akko

Ashdod having been deducted 6-points for the failure to pay African outfit 150$ came out dry again drawing with fellow relegation candidate Akko 0-0. The Israel Football association is trying to revert the FIFA imposed penalty, however to date the deduction leaves Ashdod dead last in the Ligat Ha’Al.
