The Israel Women’s Softball Team won their first two games of the European Championships defeating the Ukraine 9-1 and Turkey 15-0 as they look to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Misha Zilberman won a Bronze medal in Badminton the Minsk European Games bringing Israel’s medal total to 7 in 4 different sports. Linoy Ashram led the way with 4 medals (2 Gold, 2 Silver), Li Kochman picked up a Silver in Judo and Sergey Rikhter won Gold in shooting.

The Israel Swimming Team is set for the World Championships that will take place in South Korea at the end of July. Five male swimmers made the criteria including Yakov Toumarkin, Meiron Cheruti, Jonathan Kopelev, Itay Goldfaden and Micael Litrovsky. Three more were added to the group Andi Murez, Tomer Frankel and 15 year old Anastasia Gorbenko. In addition, Dennis Loktev, Gal Cohen and Daniel Namir.
Deni Avdija hit a game winning triple with no time left on the clock to propel the Israel Under-20 team over Croatia 83-81. The Blue & White had led by double digits but Croatia came storming back in the final frame to take a 81-80 lead. But Avdija’s heroics gave Ariel Beita Halachmi’s squad the exhibition victory ahead of the European Championships which will be held in Tel Aviv. Avdija ended his night with 20 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists, Yam Madar dropped 24 points and Yair Kravets added 10 points in the dramatic win.
Israel defeated Slovenia on Saturday 85-69 as Avdija and Raz Adam led the Blue & White with 11 points each. Yair Kravets, Noam Avivi and Tomer Porath each scored 10 points in the win. On Friday, Israel dropped Belgium 87-58 as Ofek Malka topped the scoring with 15 points while Yam Madar added 13 points in the victory.
The Israel National Team Under-25 University Games Roster was named for the tournament which will take place in Napoli beginning on July 3rd. Rafi Menco, Iftach Ziv, Roie Huber, Gil Benny, Golan Gutt, Michael Brisker, Netanel Artzi, Lior Carrera, Or Leumi, Daniel Koperberg, Idan Zazlmanson and Roman Sorkin were all named to the squad. The Blue & White will tip off against the Czech Republic, Australia and Mexico. Head Coach Oded Katash spoke about the tournament, “We are heading into a challenging and interesting competition against national teams from strong basketball nations, but that’s not the main point. It’s important that we continue the process which we are undergoing with the national team by giving younger players experience in order from them to be an integral part of the national team program and the senior team.”
Maccabi Tel Aviv’s Yovel Zoosman will play in the NBA Summer League with the Cleveland Cavaliers and wear #47 when he faces the Spurs on July 1, Utah on July 2 and Memphis on July 3. Make sure to follow The Sports Rabbi for the latest updates on Zoos!
Signings
Hapoel Holon captain Shlomi Harush will remain with the team until the end of the 2021 season after signing a 2-year extension, Isaiah Eisendorf joins Hapoel Tel Aviv on a 3-year deal, Darryl Monroe will stay put at Maccabi Rishon Le’Zion extending his contract until the end of the 2021 season and Angelo Caloiaro will stay with Maccabi Tel Aviv for a second season as his contract option was picked up. On the other side of the ledger Hapoel Eilat won’t pick up Jonathan Skjöldebrand’s option as he becomes a free agent.

Maccabi Netanya and Hapoel Tel Aviv opened up training camp ahead of the 2019/20 season as each team added a star in the offseason; Almog Cohen joins Netanya after playing for Ingolstadt in Germany while Maor Buzaglo, one of Israel’s most dynamic footballers signed with Hapoel Tel Aviv on Saturday. Both players were feted by their respective fans.
