Israel Basketball Gameday 29 Recaps & Highlights


Hapoel Jerusalem made easy work of Hapoel Beer Sheva winning in the southern capital 118-89. The capital city squad took command early on and disposed of the host’s on the strength of 24 points by James Feldeine who led seven Jerusalem scorers in double digits. Amare Stoudemire scored 17 points, Da’Sean Butler added 16 points and Josh Owens ended his night with 12 points in the win. Jordan Swing scored 20 points as Kerron Johnson dropped 18 points in the loss.

Maccabi Tel Aviv dismantled Bnei Herzliya 102-58 to extend their first place lead. The yellow-and-blue scored early and often for Coach Ioannis Sfairpoulos which also included a 33-7 third quarter. Jake Cohen earned most valuable player honors scoring 20 points going a perfect 6 for 6 from the field including 4 triples and 7 rebounds. Johnny O’Bryant added 18 points while youngster Deni Avdija and Scottie Wilbekin each scored 14 points in the win. Jerome Dyson led Herzliya with 18 points as they continue to fight against relegation.

Maccabi Rishon Le’Zion defeated Nahariya 92-84 at Beit Maccabi in the wine city. Cameron Long led all scorers with 21 points, Alex Hamilton and Diamon Simpson each dropped 16 points while Nimrod Tishman and Adan Ariel scored 13 points a piece in the win. Anthony Barber with 16 points and Egor Nestrenko with 13 points were the high scorers for Nahariya. Rishon took a slim 4-point, 44-40 lead after twenty minutes of action as Long and Simpson led the way for the host’s while Nestrenko kept the visitor’s close with a solid first half of his own. However, Hamilton, Ariel and Tishman closed out relegation candidate Nahariya with a dominant second half to take the victory.

Hapoel Holon visited Gan Ner in the Galilee to face Hapoel Gilboa/Galil and recorded a 94-73 win. Scotty Hopson made his Israel league debut after spending the majority of the season in the NBA G-League but suffered a foot injury which limited him to 10 points in 15 minutes of action. Corey Walden scored 21 points and Scottie Reynolds added 15 points in the victory. Ian Miller led Gilboa with 24 points while Greg Whittington chipped in with 15 points in the loss. Hopson had the hot hand early on in the first half while Walden and Egor Koulechov helped Holon to a 39-34 first half lead. Miller and Whittington tried to keep the host’s within striking distance but Dan Shamir’s squad pulled away in the second half thanks to a 14-0 run in the fourth quarter to pick up the win.

Hapoel Eilat defeated Nes Ziona 89-77 in the Red Sea City as Sharon Drucker’s squad solidified a top-4 in the league standings. Fredric Bourdion paced Eilat with a career high 21 points while JP Tokoto recorded a double double with 19 points and 11 rebounds while Elijah Bryant dropped 18 points in the win. Chris Dowe supplied the offense for the visitor’s with 27 points in the defeat.

Hapoel Tel Aviv dismantled Maccabi Ashdod 104-76 at the Drive In Arena. Tomer Ginat’s 19 points led the Reds while Garlon Green, Jerel McNeal and Jamal Shuler all scored 15 points a piece in the win. Mark Tollefson scored 25 points for Ashdod in the defeat.
