Israel Basketball Gameday 26 Recap & Highlights


Macccabi Ashdod defeated Hapoel Giboa/Galil 94-86 in the port city. The visitor’s took a 29-19 win after ten minutes of action but the host’s came charging back in the second frame to head into halftime all knotted up at 49-49. After a close third quarter, Brad Greenbergs Ashdod pulled away in the final frame to take the victory. Spencer Weisz had a career game with 27 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and Mark Tollefsen added 17 points in the win. Greg Whittington scored 23 points and James Kelly chipped in with 21 points in the defeat.

Nes Ziona snatched a 85-84 win from Maccabi Rishon Le’Zion thanks to late game dramatics. Nes Ziona’s Gary Browne Ramirez drilled home a game tying triple with 6 seconds left in the game which was followed by Alex Hamilton being called for a 5 second inbound violation. Browne Ramirez was then fouled and hit the front end of a pair of free throws to take the win. Talib Zanna scored 16 points, Chris Dowe added 5 points and Browne Ramirez scored 14 points in the win. Diamon Simpson and Adam Ariel each scored 15 points in the loss.

Maccabi Tel Aviv defeated upstart Hapoel Eilat 99-92 at Yad Eliyahu in Tel Aviv. The Yellow & Blue led throughout most of the contest as Scottie Wilbekin provided the offense with 23 points while Tarik Black’s huge fourth quarter helped Coach Ioannis Sfairpoulos’s side to the win. Black ended the night with 14 points while Johnny O’Bryant added 15 points and Michael Roll chipped in with 12 points in the win. Elijah Bryant led the way for Sharon Drucker’s Eilat with 21 points, Suleiman Braimoh chipped in with 16 points and Jonathan Skoljebrand scored 14 points in the loss.

Hapoel Beer Sheva traveled up north and beat Nahariya 92-68 to take home yet another convincing win. The host’s took a 23-20 lead after ten minutes but a 33-15 second quarter seethe tone for the balance of the game. Taylor Braun clocked in with a double-double scoring 19 points and grabbing 12 rebounds, Amit Gershon added 19 points and Kerron Johnson chipped in with 17 points for Beer Sheva. Anthony Barber led Nahariya with 21 points and Myke Henry scored 18 points in the loss.

Hapoel Tel Aviv used a strong second half to defeat Bnei Herzliya 90-73. Jerel McNeal scored 20 points and Raviv Limonad came to within one assist of a double-double 16 points, 9 assists) for the Reds. Jerome Dyson led Herzliya with 18 points.
