Israel Basketball Gameday 10

Hapoel Jerusalem 88-86 UNET Holon
Hapoel Jerusalem pulled out a close win at home Saturday night as they beat UNET Holon 88-86. Down most of the gams, Hapoel Jerusalem wasn’t going down without a fight and came back to outscore Holon 21-14 down the stretch to get the win. Jerome Dyson guided Hapoel Jerusalem with 29 points, Ronald Roberts backed him up with a double double recording 14 points with 15 rebounds as Kalin Lucas added 13 points in the win. Glen Rice Jr. dominated for Holon scoring 36 points with 6 boards, TaShawn Thomas supplemented him with 17 points and Joe Alexander dropped 12 points and added 7 rebounds.

3-Pointers
1) Jerusalem saw a tremendous of character coming back into the game as Glen Rice Jr. ripped the Reds defense to pieces in the 3rd quarter with 16 points in the frame. But two bad possessions at the end of the game did Holon in as Corey Walden and Rice couldn’t get the job done for the visitors.

2) Jerome Dyson was fabulous for the hosts and made sure to match Rice almost basket for basket throughout the contest. Without Dyson’s sharp shooting the game could have finished much differently. #2 had a brutal evening last week in Munich but out that to bed with an authoritative display all night long.

3) I asked Jerusalem coach Mody Maor after the game what he thought about Dyson & Rice’s performances and he said that they were amazing to watch but at the end of the day it’s a team that wins games and not individuals; and that was certainly the case for Jerusalem, especially looking back to Walden and Rice’s possessions at the end of the game. I also asked Joe Alexander if he felt that they were selfish plays, but his answer was that they both had good looks. However, I beg to differ as each held the ball the length of the shot clock before making their move.

Hapoel Tel Aviv 86-81 Nes Ziona
Hapoel Tel Aviv came out on top of Nes Ziona by a score of 86-81. Hapoel Tel Aviv pulled away from Nes Ziona by scoring 25 points in the 4th quarter to get the win. Jerel McNeal lead Hapoel Tel Aviv with 21 points and 4 assists, Tywain McKee followed him up with 17 points and 3 assists while Tony Gaffney and Rafi Menco also had 12 points a piece. Talib Zanna guided Nes Ziona with a double double notching 26 points with 14 rebounds while Daequan Cook had 19 points.

Nahariya 90-98 Maccabi Tel Aviv
Jonah Bolden and Pierre Jackson combined for 44 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in the Yellow & Blue’s win up north. After falling to Holon, Maccabi came back to take down Arik Alfasi’s Team who received 27 points from Corey Webster.

Hapoel Eilat 86-76 Maccabi Ashdod
Maccabi Ashdod headed south for a tough away game in Eilat. The game started off as a close and at halftime Eilat held a 6 point, 44-38 lead. However, the 3rd quarter was racial for the hosts as they outscored Ashdod 22-1 to take a commanding 66-49 advantage into the final frame. Demetrius Treadwell recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds while Amit Simhon led all scorers with 21 points for Eilat. Sek Henry dropped 19 points as Travis Warech added 12 points in the defeat.

Hapoel Gilboa/Galil 73-66 Maccabi Haifa
There was a very interesting game in the Galil as Gilboa faced Maccabi Haifa. The game stayed close through all 40 minutes as Haifa held a 4 point lead at the half. In the 2nd half Gilboa made a comeback and picked up the victory in a very tough and physical battle. Haifa coach Ofer Rahimi was ejected during game for arguing with the officials. Zach LeDay scored 20 points and added 12 rebounds for a double-double as D’Angelo Harrison dropped 16 points. Joaquin Szuchman scored 8 points, grabbed 7 rebounds, stole 4 balls and dished out 3 assists for Gilboa/Galil while Oz Blayzer and Brandon Bowman each scored 15 points for the Greens.

Bnei Herzliya 80-93 Maccabi Rishon Le’Zion
Herzliya came to the game vs Rishon hoping to get on the right track and pick up a win on their home court. However, Rishon controlled the flow and tempo of the game and made sure to secure an important away win 93:80 as Alon Stein and his Herzliya players need to find a way to escape the bottom of the league table. Michael Efevberha scored 29 points for Herzliya while Jason Siggers dropped 24 points and Mark Tollefsen picks up a double-double with 23 points and 12 rebounds for Rishon.
