Having beaten Elitzur Tel Aviv last Wednesday, Inter Aliyah next took on Or Yehuda at home, a team that defeated had defeated the club in their first meeting in what was the second-ever official game as a team.
Keen to take revenge, Inter would eventually win in the most brutal way possible but this game could have gone either way in what was a truly competitive, rollercoaster basketball game.
Inter started well and ended the 1st quarter up by 9 points as Or Yehuda struggled to deal with the perimeter shooting. Yet, things changed in the 2nd as Inter failed to break down their zone defense and Inter went into the half down by two points, following a buzzer-beater at the end of the frame.
In the all-important final quarter, Inter found themselves down by 9 points with less than seven minutes to go but a few stops later the deficit around with some fast-break points.
With just 25 seconds remaining on the clock, Inter were up by 3 when a few crucial decisions went against hosts as Or Yehuda converted three of four free throws down the stretch to tie up the score.
With the game all knotted up at 60, Inter ran a play which was improvised as Nyv Segev found Amitai Spiegelman who found the basket as the buzzer sounded to secure an incredible win on the final shot of the game.
Sam Roche led the scoring with 15 points, Nyv Segev (14) and Amishav Weinstein (10) also reached double figures in Inter’s first-ever walk-off buzzer-beater but more importantly a victory to move to an 8-4 record and 2nd place in the league.
