Gilboa/Galil slays Maccabi, Jerusalem drowns Nahariya, Beer Sheva wins & More!


Hapoel Jerusalem demolished Nahariya 92-53 at home thanks to solid defense, quality shooting and the visitor’s going 0/26 from 3-point land setting a league record. Tamir Blatt scored 8 first quarter points hitting a pair of 3’s in the frame to set the tone as the guard ended the game with 13 points. Bar Timor led all Jerusalem scorers with 14 points while Chris Johnson and James Feldeine each dropped 12 points in the win. Terry Allen led Nahariya with 14 points in the loss.

Hapoel Gilboa/Galil are the giant slayers so far this season taking out Hapoel Jerusalem last week and defeating Maccabi Tel Aviv 98-94 this week as they moved their record to 4-1. Ariel Beit Halachmi’s squad was geared up for a clash with the first place yellow-and-blue and didn’t disappoint as the host’s took the win thanks to six players in double figures. Bryant Crawford had another marvelous outing scoring 20 points, dishing out 9 assists, grabbing 6 rebounds and stealing 4 balls, while Ian Miller dropped 21 points and Netanel Artzi scored a career high 16 points in the victory. Johnny O’Bryant and Yovel Zoosman tried in vain to keep Maccabi in the game as they scored 31 and 19 points respectively but it wasn’t enough as the visitor’s were never able to dig themselves out of a 54-45 halftime hole.

Hapoel Beer Sheva pulled out the 84-75 victory on the road at Bnei Herzliya thanks to a 22-12 fourth quarter overcoming a one-point 63-62 deficit with only ten minutes remaining. Jordan Swing led the southern reds with 22 points in 24 minutes, big man Jakim Donaldson recorded a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds while Taylor Braun added 14 points in the win. Karma Mashour was the high scorer for Herzliya with 13 points as James Robinson complimented him with 12 points.

Veteran Guy Pnini’s heroics gave Hapoel Holon a 78-75 win over Hapoel Tel Aviv as the forward hit a huge 3-pointer with less than a second remaining on the clock to cap a 20-6 fourth quarter to pick up the victory. Daquan Jones continued his torrid pace this season with 18 points, Darion Atkins dropped 17 points and pulled down 8 rebounds while Pnini finished the night with 11 points, however, none more important than his game winner for Dan Shamir’s squad. Danny Franco’s Tel Aviv side received a double-double from veteran captain Raviv Limonad who scored 14 points and added 10 assists as Jamal Shuler chipped in with 15 points and Tomer Ginat added 11 points and 9 boards in the disappointing defeat.

Hapoel Eilat picked up their second win of the season dropping Rishon Le’Zion 75-72. Visiting Eilat had a 64-52 lead heading into the final frame but the host’s made a rampant comeback but just came up short. Elijah Bryant scored 20 points and Lenzelle Smith Jr. added 18 points in the win while DeShawn Stephens dropped 19 points and Oz Blayzer chipped in with 15 points in the loss.

Maccabi Ashdod surprised Nes Ziona 82-70 as they pulled away in the second half to record the 12-point victory. Spencer Weisz notched his career high in points with 20, wily veteran guard Paul Stoll added a double-double with 10 points and 11 assists while Winston Shepard dropped 15 points in the win. Gerald Lee led the way for Nes Ziona with 15 points on the night.
