Hapoel Gilboa Galil defeated Hapoel Holon 88-79 in an action packed high octane affair by both clubs. After a close first quarter, Gilboa ripped off a 17-0 run thanks to Netanel Artzi and Iftach Ziv but Tyrus McGee and Frederic Bourdillon came on strong to tie things up late. But Ziv and Isaiah Cousins found the basket down the stretch to wrap up the win.
Artzi equalled his career high with 21 points, Ziv added 19 points and Cousins checked in with 14 points in the win. McGee led all scorer with 25 points and Bourdillon added 21 points in the loss.
Frederic Bourdillon and Netanel Artzi exchanged 3-pointers, Uriel Trotsky and CJ Harris found points for Holon while Joe Thomasson did the same for Hapoel Gilboa Galil as the score was knotted up at 9-9 midway through the first quarter. Artzi kept filling the bucket for Lior Lubin’s squad while at the other Bourdillon, Chris Johnson, Guy Pnini and Tyrus McGee did the same for Stefanos Dedas’s team but a last second layup by Iftach Ziv gave the visitor’s a slim 22-21 lead after ten minutes.
Jehyve Floyd scored in the paint to get the second quarter underway while Ziv found points from the outside and Kerry Blackshear scored on the inside as Gilboa went on a 17-0 run from the end of the first frame to 5:45 remaining in the half to up their lead to 37-21. Johnson finally scored Holon’s first points of the quarter and added a layup, Harris went in for an acrobatic put down and Bourdillon scored but Floyd and Yotam Hanochi scored for Gilboa to take a 44-34 advantage at halftime.
Floyd and Blackshear got to work on the Holon rims while Ziv downed a layup but Johnson, Bourdillon and Isaiah Miles scored at the other end midway through the third quarter to cut the lead to 51-42. Johnson scored but was then sent packing, Miles nailed a corner triple, Bourdillon added an easy layup but Floyd hit a jumper as the shot clock expired as Gilboa stayed ahead 58-50 after thirty minutes.
McGee got to work as the fourth quarter began with a triple and a jumper plus a foul shot, Artzi drilled home a 3-pointer and then scored free throws at the other end but another McGee triple knotted up the score at 64-64 with 7:09 remaining in regulation. Amit Gershon got onto the stat sheet as he dialled up long distance and Isaiah Cousins scored from both the outside and inside but McGee and Bourdillon continued to find the basket as Gilboa retook the lead 78-77 with 2:10 to go. Free throws and a jumper by Cousins plus a dagger 3 by Ziv wrapped up a 7 point, 88-81 win.
