Beitar Jerusalem smashed Bnei Reineh 5-1 thanks to an Omer Atzily brace to advance to the State Cup finals where they will face the winner of the Hapoel Beer Sheva and Hapoel Tel Aviv semifinal matchup in two weeks time. Omer Atzily broke the deadlock in the 44th minute when he stabbed home a Yarden Shua free kick while the same Atzily doubled the advantage in the 48th minute for a 2-0 lead. A pair of quick goals by Mayron George and Shua in the 60th and 61st minutes bumped the lead up to 4-0 while Adi Yona scored ten minutes later before Reineh finally broke up the clean sheet with a strike from Leroy Mondzenga.
Barak Itzhaki summed up the huge victory on the way to the Cup final, “I didn’t think we would win like this, but as the first half progressed, I realized it was going our way. We controlled the pace and I knew that Reineh would give us more space that we could exploit on transition.”
Sharon Mimer reflected on the loss, “I don’t think it’s right to say that we didn’t show up to the game. In the first half, we neutralized them and they didn’t threaten until the first goal. We broke down on transition and maybe being in the semifinal was perhaps a little too big for us.”
