Beer Sheva falls to Leverkusen, Maccabi go down to Villarreal plus all of the Israelis Abroad in European play

Hapoel Beer Sheva fell to Bayer Leverkusen 4-2 at the Moshava Stadium as a brace by Elton Acolatse was canceled out by a pair of goals by Leon Bailey as the Bundesliga side took the 3-points. Beer Sheva is now in 4th place with Slavia Prague in first followed by Leverkusen and Nice as Slavia Prague defeated the French squad 3-2.

Bailey opened the scoring with an early 5th minute goal but Acolatse scored his first six minutes later and his second in the 25th minute on a terrific individual play in the box to give the southern Reds a shock 2-1 lead. However, an own goal by Or Dadia before the halftime break drew the visitors even as Bailey and Florian Wirtz with a little help from Beer Sheva keeper Ohad Levita, found the back of the goal in the second half to take the victory.

Leverkusen coach Peter Bosz said after the game, “We didn’t play well in the first half. We can be happy that it was only 2-2 at the break. We did things better in the second half – pressed better, let the ball do the running, and deservedly won in the end.”
