Ziv paces Holon to win over Kiryat Ata

Hapoel Holon got by Kiryat Ata 98-93 after mounting a second half comeback to take the win. Justin Alston and Mike Davis paced the purples early on but Yuval Levin and KeAndre Cook helped the hosts take a 49-48 advantage at halftime. JJ Kaplan scored at will to begin the second half but Iftach Ziv, Netanel Artzi and Davis helped Holon take the lead and chalk up the victory.

Ziv scored 20 points, Alston added 19 points and Davis out in 17 points in the win. Kaplan scored 26 points, Cook scored 17 points and Levin checked in with 14 points in the loss.

Idan Zalmanson and Justin Alston helped Hapoel Holon build up a double digit lead early on but Yuval Levin scored for Kiryat Ata to cut the gap down to 4 points with under a minute left in the opening quarter but a triple along with a layup off a steal by Dakarai Tucker gave the purples a 27-18 lead after ten minutes of play. Chris Smith and Levin started to cut into the lead, Mike Davis scored to keep Holon ahead but newcomer KeAndre Cook began to make a impact for Kiryat Ata as they took a 49-48 advantage into halftime.

JJ Kaplan began to score from all angles as he put in points from the outside and inside to bump the Kiryat Ata lead to double digits, but Netanel Artzi began finding the basket while points from Iftach Ziv tied the game up at 71-71 after thirty minutes of action. Davis and Ziv began to help Holon pull away, Kaplan kept Kiryat Ata hanging around but Ziv kept scoring to close out the victory.

“I have to give credit to Kiryat Ata as they really played well but I am happy that we took the win,” Hapoel Holon Head Coach Guy Kaplan said. “Emotions were running high and we had to make sure to keep that in check which is what we were able to do down the stretch as we took the win. Next up is Afula who are very tough on their home court.”

“We suffered an injury to Silvio de Sousa that really hurt us but we we’re still in the game,” Kiryat Ata Head Coach Eldad Bentov began. “We didn’t have enough energy here for a 40 mutes game and we tried. There were a a lot of turnovers which can’t happen.”

The game MVP Iftach Ziv spoke about the victory, “I’m not sure if this was the best game of the season for me but there were a lot of emotions in they game which held us down. We got into the fourth quarter and were able to pull away and take the win.”

Hapoel Galil Elyon clipped Hapoel Haifa in overtime 116-112 as Marcus Carr and Rawle Alkins were able to tame Matt Coleman and DeAndre Pinckney down the stretch to secure the win. The Carmel Reds grabbed a 52-47 lead at halftime but the Galilee squad was able to comeback over the course of the second half as Carr drained a trio of free throws as regulation time wound down to send the game into the extra session. In overtime Coleman tried to will his side to the victory, but Lior Carriera, Lukas Goldenberg and Alkins closed out the win. Carr scored 28 points, Alkins added 26 points and Goldenberg put in 17 points in the victory. Coleman scored 29 points while Pinckey and JaKeenan Gant each scored 22 points in the loss.
