Zahavi, Warsaw Ghetto Memorial, Israel readies for Poland after 3:0 win over Latvia

Israel plays Poland in UEFA Euro 2020 Qualifying on Monday in Warsaw at 21:45. The Blue & White is coming off of a 3:0 win over Latvia thanks to a hat trick by Eran Zahavi while Poland defeated Slovenia 1:0 on Friday night. Israel Head Coach Andi Herzog’s squad has collected 7 points in 3 matches good for second place as Poland is undefeated at the top of the group with 9 points.

Herzog was asked about Zahavi’s continued goal scoring prowess as the Guangzhou striker now has 7 goals so far this campaign, “I don’t want him to think too much about it. Right now he is doing all of the right things and I hope that he will be able to continue his current shape, but it will be difficult. When you’ve scored 7 goals in three games everyone in Europe knows who you are.l

The coach continued, “My philosophy is to take 3 points against every opponent. This will be a difficult match against a quality team and we know that we will be punished for every mistake because of their quality. The players know that we are facing a much better opponent who may not have been as impressive as they can be but they still are perfect.”

Israel captain Bibras Natcho spoke about the opportunity to visit the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising Memorial, “Of course it was an emotional ceremony and we know what type of responsibility we gave as the Israel National Team. We have a very unique country with an extraordinary past.”

He also talked about the match, “Poland is going to be the favorite as it’s their home game, but we want to take something out of it.”

Poland Head Coach Jerzy Brzęczek was asked how he plans on stopping Zahavi, “It’s not going to be just one specific player but the whole national team. We know what he can do and his stats and goals that he’s scored. But Israel isn’t just one player, they know how to play as a team but we are ready for them and we won’t be surprised.”
