Wilbekin Torches Former Club as Besiktas Hand Maccabi Tel Aviv 109-93 Defeat

Maccabi Tel Aviv fell to Besiktas 109-93 as Scottie Wilbekin overwhelmed his former club helping the visitors to the win that dropped the yellow-and-blue to 0-2 in the early season. Besiktas came out shooting as a number of players scored early on while Wilbekin also hit his shots to guide the Turkish side to a 6-point halftime lead. However, in the second half Anthony Brown started to drain his attempts from beyond the arc while Devon Dotson also contributed to chalk up the victory and send Maccabi to an 0-2 record with a trip to Panathinaikos coming up on Friday night.

Bonzie Colson scored 17 points and Jimmy Clark added 15 points in the loss while Wilbekin and Brown scored 20 points a piece, Devon Dotson scored 17 points as Conor Morgan put in 13 points in the win.

Conor Morgan, Jaylen Nowell and Ante Zizic scored for Besiktas, Yam Madar scored from the line and fed Roman Sorkin for a pair of alley-oops for Maccabi Tel Aviv but more points from Morgan gave the visitors a 27-19 lead after ten minutes of play. Sorkin scored on the inside while Furkan Korkmaz did the same from the outside, Devon Dotson kept filling the basket, Anthony Brown scored as well, Iffe Lundberg, Daniel Theis and Jaylen Hoard tried to keep Oded Katash’s team close, while Clark also scored to cut the gap by the end of the half to 52-46 by halftime.

Scottie Wilbekin started to heat up to begin the third quarter, Lundberg responded, Brown drained a trio of triples, Korkmaz also went from deep while Keaton Wallace came back with points, but Dusan Alimpijevic’s team took a 78-63 after thirty minutes of action. TJ Leaf put in points to start off the final frame, Bonzie Colson and Clark went from deep but Wilbekin did the same at the other end while Dotson and Eugene Omoruyi found points as Brown kept hitting from downtown to close out the victory.
