The Israel National Basketball team traveled to Poland today, Monday, for the final two games of the 2022 European Championship qualification round. The Blue & White have already punched their ticket to the continental competition and hold a 4-0 record thus far in Group A action and will tip off against Romania on Friday and Spain on Sunday as they look to secure first place.
“We have an intense and fun week ahead,” said head coach Oded Katash who joined the team after moving to Athens to lead Greek powerhouse Panathinaikos. “I missed being with the guys and I am proud that we have already advanced to the Eurobasket, but we want to finish this campaign on a high note.”
“This may be my last window with the team but that’s fine. I am proud as to how these four years went I am sure that the process will continue. Everyone who is with the team deserved to be here and we are here to win games. If I can allow a couple of younger players to get minutes I will.”
Iftach Ziv spork about have already qualified to the big tourney in 2022, “I don’t want to say it was easy but we did advance faster than we had thought we would. We did our job but we still want to win these games as everyone is in top game shape.”
Up and coming guard Noam Dovrat also looked ahead to the final window of games, “We are coming into these games with everything that we’ve got. We may play against some of the guys in league action but when we are with the National Team we are here as teammates. This is my second time with the senior team and I’m very excited about the opportunity.”
