Phil Greene recently joined Maccabi Ironi Ramat Gan for the upcoming 2023/24 season as the guard comes over to Israel after a stellar campaign in Poland.

The 30-year old native of Chicago, Illinois featured for St. John’s University for four years where he averaged 13 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.6 assists in his senior year. From there, Greene embarked on a professional career that saw him make stops in Turkey, Italy, Greece and Poland.

This past season at Anwil Wloclawek in which Greene helped the Polish club win the FIBA Europe Cup and was named the finals MVP he scored 16.9 points while shooting 53% from beyond the arc while grabbing 2.4 rebounds and dishing out 2.7 assists in 17 continental games.

To learn more about Phil Greene, The Sports Rabbi was in touch with a number of his former teammates:

St. John’s Teammate Max Hooper: In college Phil was a silent assassin. He didn’t say too much, but he let his game do the talking. I always respected him for that and respected his ability to lock in on the task at hand. He did a great job of staying calm and collected in clutch moments and he was a teammate that you really trusted at a high level when there were tense moments in games. He’s gone on to build a great career overseas and there’s no surprise given his competitive nature, work ethic, and overall love of the game. I’m grateful to have been his teammate years ago.

Derthona Teammates:
Giampaolo Ricci: Phil is an amazing scorer. He’s a guard that can shoot 3s from long range, his pull up is very effective and also on defense he could be a factor. We spent one year together in Tortona in the second Italian League and we finished in 2nd place at the end of the regular season also thanks to his talent and to some buzzer beaters that he scores at the end of some games. He got Ice in his veins!!!!

Alberto Conti: Very good guy, a real professional, very good player 1vs1, shooting three pointers and dribble pull ups.

Verona Teammates:
Andrea Amato: Amazing player, great attitude. Great defender and great person. One of the best Americans I played with in my career.

Andrea Colussa: I can say that he is a great guy, enjoyable and a quiet leader on the court but always efficient and he is a great player.

Giga Janelidze: He’s a very good worker, he is always working very, very good, never taking some steps behind, he’s always pushing himself and his teammates. He’s a good guy in the locker room and outside of the court, he always gives you 100 percent of himself. When we played in Verona together he scored some crazy game winners, twice we won the game in the last second that he scored amazing buckets. I can only say positive things about him.

Davide Guglielmi: Phil is a great guy, he is quiet, but a nice and funny guy. He can score in any situation… threes by dribble, pnr and at the rim. And most important he’s clutch.

Gaziantep Teammates:
Sarunas Vasiliauskas: Great guy, I loved spending time around him. Amazing personality, always with a smile, it was hard at the beginning as he started the season and got hurt. It was hard to come back, but he has skills and he can play good basketball.

Murat Goktas: Phil has very good character and he is very good teammate. He was always loved by his teammates. We had so much fun with him. When we were playing together he had a bad knee injury so he had to leave. Markovic was a tough coach.

Trefl Teammate Grzegorz Kulka: I only played with him for a couple months around 5 years ago so I can’t tell you much about him 😉 I played against him though and yea he was killing last season. Really good shooter and I hope he will help the team a lot cause he seems to be a good guy.

Gdynia Teammate Dariusz Wyka: A great guy who gets along with everyone. Very funny. In my opinion, a complete player with a killer three-pointer!!!

Büyükçekmece Teammates:
Evan Bruinsma: They are lucky to have Phil! He’s a great defender and a guy everyone will love to play with. The fans will appreciate his game and he is a guy that wins everywhere he goes. A great teammate and player.

Volodymyr Gerun: He is a great teammate and a great player. Good attitude on and off the court and he also has a winning mentality.

Wloclawek Teammates:
Josh Bostic: One of the best players I’ve ever played with. But an even better human being. He’s family.

Dawid Slupinski: Phil is a straight athlete, focused at basketball. Great, funny guy in the lockerroom. His domain is ‚FINAO’. He will do a lot of good for the team.

Michal Nowakowski: I think that Maccabi Ramat Gan made a great decision in signing Phil for this season. Phil has big basketball IQ, crazy and unpredictable shot (u will see it soon) and he is really experienced player!!!! But first of all he is the best teammate ever. I love to play with him on the court, we catch up fast to each other and we understood each other very well on the court. But off the court his passion, energy, commitment and positive vibes are amazing. He was spreading this energy to all of us and in my opinion that was crucial in allowing us to win FIBA Europe Cup!! And he is funny as hell.

Kamil Laczynski: First of all, Phil is an amazing person on and off the court, unbelievable great teammate who is supporting you all the time. Warrior, great shooter, a guy with the passion and is hungry to achieve any goal which is a head of him. As a person you can count on him, always ready to help, every practice working 110 percent, so I couldn’t imagine a better teammate like Phil.
