May 23, 2024 | Holyland Hoops

Olympiacos veteran forward Luke Sikma will be making his Euroleague Final Four after having played in Europe for over a decade. Son of former Seattle SuperSonics bs Milwaukee Bucks standout Jack Sikma, Luke has forged his own path across the pond. Having played in various locales such as Spain with Valencia and Germany with Alba Berlin, the 34-year old looks to finally reach continental glory.

Just before his Greek squad tips off in the second semifinal against Real Madrid, The Sports Rabbi spoke to the standout about his former Alba Israeli teammates Tamir Blatt and Yovel Zoosman as well as the keys to the game and how excited he is to have the opportunity of a lifetime.

“It’s great to be here and it’s been a long time coming. After 13 years to finally be here is something special and an experience I’m really looking forward to and enjoy.”

As for the keys to the game Sikma feels that the battle of the boards will be important as to the ultimate outcome, “It’s going to be a battle of two different rhythms. They really like to get out and run and we are a little bit more of a defensive team, defensive minded and a lot it down a little bit. But I think it will be a big battle of rebounds with two really big teams. Games are kind of won or lost in the paint so a lot of different keys but it’s about trying to go out and play your game.”

Sikma played with both Yovel Zoosman and Tamir Blatt for a pair of seasons at Alba Berlin and feels they they have plenty of potential going forward, “Yovel started at Maccabi as a young player and had a chance to play a role on a top Euroleague team. He then developed and opened up his game at Alba and is now at Jerusalem. Tamir had a great year with Maccabi and is a true point guard whi really sees the floor and gets his teammates involved. Two great guys with huge potential that I think we are going to see big things from them.”
