Showing something special: Israel readies for Eurobasket

As Israel makes its final preparations for the FIBA EuroBasket, which tips off later this week, coach Sharon Drucker and captain Eden Rotberg spoke to the media on Tuesday evening.

“Our expectation, if someone knows the history of women’s basketball and the EuroBasket, our goal is to show something special,” Drucker said. “I think we have a group of ladies that are very determined and very big motivated – honestly, I haven’t seen this level of motivation in a long time. They want to go and play, to show, to prove and I think for all the fans, all the young generation that will come and watch our national team, our goal is that they will see heart, they will see them giving the maximum on the floor and they will show pride.”

“I’m very excited,” Rotberg added. “It’s our dream to play here in front of our crowd – our families, everyone – it’s our honor.”

Earlier on Tuesday, the team announced its final 12-person roster for the tournament. Rotberg is joined by Daniel Karash, Gili Eisner, Yarden Garzon, Alyssa Baron, Lior Garzon, Jennie Simms, Eden Zipel, Tal Sahar, Tslil Vaturi, Daniel Raber and Alex Cohen.

The tournament begins on June 15, with the group stages being held in Tel Aviv and Slovenia. The Shlomo Group Arena – Drive In in Tel Aviv will host all three of Israel’s games against Belgium on Thursday, Italy on Friday and the Czech Republic on Sunday. Tickets are on sale now at, at an affordable price of 50 Shekels per game, giving Israel basketball fans the opportunity to see a first-class international tournament live in their backyard.
