Dusty Hannahs moved from Nes Ziona where he had signed a 2-year deal as the naturalized Israeli prior to the 23/24 season to Hapoel Tel Aviv for a 1.5 year contract as the Reds reportedly bought out the guard for an unprecedented $200,000. Hannahs scored 13 points when he made his Israeli league debut on Friday October 6th as Nes Ziona defeated Hapoel Afula, but once the war began, the sharpshooter returned to the United States. Nes Ziona have said that they tried to convince Hannahs to return to the club to no avail which set up the transaction that saw him move from orange to red.
The 30-year, who played his college ball with Texas Tech and then transferred to his home state and played for Arkansas averaging 14.4 points in his senior year, returns to the Holy Land after having most recently played with the United States National Team in AmeriCup qualifiers.
The shooting guard spent time with the Memphis Hustle and the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G-League where his best season, the 2019/20 campaign saw him score over 21 points per game while clocking in at 45% from deep. Along the way, Hannahs made 4 appearances in the NBA with the Memphis Grizzlies and also featured for the Adelaide 36ers where he scored 13.5 points per game over the course of the campaign down under.
To learn more about Dutsy Hannahs, The Sports Rabbi was in touch with a number of his former teammates:
Arkansas Teammates:
Jonathan Holmes: Dusty is a hard working, competitive, personable and extraordinary man that continues to prove people wrong. Playing with him my first year at Arkansas was an incredible experience. He showed me what it was like to be a Division 1 ball player. The work ethic, the way to impact the community, how to carry myself, the passion needed to succeed at the highest level, all of it.
The best part about it was how great of a teammate he was and how he took me under his wing without even knowing it. He’s a super easy guy to get along with and is going to hold you accountable in practice and in games. Overall, Dusty is a top 3 teammate of mine and I can’t say enough great things about him.
Jabril Durham: The best shooter I have ever played with in my career. A competitor warrior. A good guy off the court as well. He wants to win at all cost the fans will love his energy and passion.
Adrio Bailey: He’s a bucket!!! That’s simple!
Texas Tech teammates:
Dejan Kravic: First of all he is one of the best shooters/scorers that I have played with and watched. He’s been one of the best shooters in the G-League for the past few years. But also his work ethic is second to none; he is a gym rat. He was my roommate for one season in college and he is a great guy who everyone loved. A very positive and fun to be around person. I think he will do great things in Israel!
Toddrick Gotcher: Dusty is one of the best shooters I have ever played with. His jump shot is very consistent and over the years he has expanded his game to where he can get to the basket and mid-range. He is a high IQ player and I believe his game fits the Israeli league. He will play well there.
Aaron Ross: Dusty is a great player, great teammate and most importantly he’s a great person. He’s going to work hard and he’s going to make Ironi Ness Ziona a better team.
Robert Turner: Great person and player. He is one of my good friends. Definitely a hard worker and one the best at what he does.
Jordan Tolbert: Dusty, Gerald is a not gonna be out worked. He’s consistent in his approach to the game he’s a relentless shooter he will shoot through a slump and make big shots when it makes he takes great care of his body. He’s a pro‘s pro ever coach wants a guy like this on his team.
G-League Teammates:
Elijah Pemberton: I can say that Dusty is an uplifting lockeroom guy and true professional to the game. A 3 level scorer with an incredible IQ. Quick decisions with crazy range. No doubt in my mind he can thrive and be himself in any system given the opportunity. Incredible golfer!!
Tanner McGrew: Dusty is one of the best shooters I’ve ever shared the court with. He has consistently shot great percentages in his career and he also has great range. On top of his shooting, he has the ability to get to the basket and score through contact as well. Dusty is a good player but a great guy off the court as well—someone I am lucky to call a friend. I think he will be a great addition to Ironi Ness Ziona, and they are lucky to have him.
Markel Crawford: You guys are lucky the have him. That’s my guy he’s of my favorite teammates and people. He’s a great friend off the court as well which makes it that much easier to go to battle with him. One of the most hardworking guys I’ve played with in a long time so he deserves all his success!
JJ Frazier: Dusty is a GREAT DUDE! He’s competitive, tough, smart, coachable and above all else he’s a team player! He can shoot the ball from anywhere in the gym – so Nes Ziona is lucky to have him and probably will not want him to ever leave lol.
Myke Henry: I love dusty- he has great character and an everyday guy. Works hard- funny guy so he’ll be great to have around any team.
Selom Mawugbe: Dusty is a great guy and an ultimate competitor. Can shoot the ball with some of the best I’ve ever seen as well as get crafty keeping them honest on the dribble and finishing. Quality character and a guy that the fans will love I have no doubt. Excited to see him thrive on this new team!
DJ Stephens: Really cool dude off the court… very elite skill set on offense, has a burner from 3. All ranges, can shoot the ball really, really well.
Adelaide Teammate Mitchell McCarron: He’s a great guy and a knockdown shooter. Very good at scoring off the dribble, and I’m sure he will do great there!
