Rishon Le’Zion slams Jerusalem 98-67 in biggest loss since 2010/11

Maccabi Rishon Le’Zion drubbed Hapoel Jerusalem 98-67 as the hosts broke away in the middle of the third quarter with an 11-0 run as Jeremy Pargo, Jamil Wilson, Noam Dovrat and Golan Gutt paced Guy Goodes’s squad to the win. This was the Reds biggest loss in a decade since they fell by 41 points to Maccabi Tel Aviv in the 2010/11 season.

Pargo scored 18 points and dished out 9 assists, Wilson added 16 points, Noam Dovrat scored 15 points, Akil Mitchell checked in with 14 points and 9 rebounds and Golan Gutt chipped in with 12 points in the victory. Stanton Kidd led Jerusalem with 17 points, Tashawn Thomas added 14 points and 12 boards as Su Braimoh scored 13 points in the loss.

Jamil Wilson punished his former team right off the bat with a pair of 3-pointers but Hapoel Jerusalem’s Tamir Blatt responded immediately with one of his own at the other end to begin the first quarter. Noam Dovrat, Akil Mitchell and Darryl Monroe got on the board for the Maccabi Rishon Le’Zion while Stanton Kidd began lighting up the scoreboard, but Jeremy Pargo ended the frame with a high floater on the baseline to give Rishon a 23-18 lead after ten minutes.

Ray McCallum and Chris Kramer scored for Jerusalem while Golan Gutt, Egor Koulechov and Wilson did the same for Guy Goodes’s team to stay in front 34-25 midway through the second quarter. Su Braimoh put down a dunk and added a triple as did Kidd, but points from Pargo, Wilson, Gutt and Mitchell kept the Rishon lead at 9-points, 47-38 at halftime.

Pargo and Braimoh got the third quarter underway with points for each squad and Blatt drained a 3-pointer to close the gap to just 3-points, 51-48 with 6:20 left in the stanza. But Gutt drilled a triple, Pargo added a 3-point play and Gutt with another bucket forced Jerusalem coach Dainius Adomaitis to call timeout as the hosts raced off to a 11-0 run. Kidd with a dunk, McCallum scored from beyond the arc and Tashawn Thomas found points to stay within striking range but Pargo kept scoring as Rishon stayed ahead 66-55 after thirty minutes.

Pargo, Koulechov and Wilson began the fourth quarter with baskets as Thomas and Braimoh answered for the Reds as they fell behind 77-61 midway through the period. Dovrat and Koulechov from the outside and Mitchell from the inside added more insult to injury as Rishon ran away with the 98-67 victory.

At the Carmel Mountain, Maccabi Haifa downed visiting Nes Ziona 113-94 as Roman Sorkin led the way with 24 points and 9 rebounds wile Chris Dowe added 19 points and Kalin Lucas checked in with an 18 point, 11 assist double-double. Jerome Meyinsee and Lior Carreira scored 14 points a piece in the loss.

Hapoel Holon walloped Plovdiv 97-70 in Balkan League action as Nate Sestina topped Stefanos Dedas’s scorers with 22 points in the victory.
