Maccabi Tel Aviv defeated Hapoel Jerusalem 81-65 to move on to Sunday’s Winner Cup Final where they will face Hapoel Eilat. Sean Kilpatrick led Oren Amiel’s team out of the gate but Ioannis Sfairopoulos’s squad used a strong second half to come back from a 5-point halftime deficit as Jalen Reynolds, James Nunnally and Scottie Wilbekin poured on the offense to give the yellow-and-blue the victory.
Reynolds led the way with an MVP performance scoring 22 points, Nunnally added 15 points and Wilbekin chipped in with 15 points in the win. Sean Kilpatrick scored 16 points, Retin Obasohan added 13 points and Jalen Adams scored 12 points in the loss.
Anthony Bennett, Sean Kilpatrick and Retin Obasohan all went from deep to get things rolling for Hapoel Jerusalem while Adam Ariel and Yuval Schneiderman also added points. But Maccabi Tel Aviv’s big man Jalen Reynolds hit a pair of long range jumpers and added points inside to cut the Reds lead to 24-16 after ten minutes of play.
Jalen Adams and Obasohan scored for the Reds while Scottie Wilbekin and Roman Sorkin answered for the yellow-and-blue. Reynolds put down an alley-oop over Thon Maker delivered by James Nunnally, Kilpatrick drilled home another triple while Nunnally and DiBartolomeo did the same at the other end. However, Kilpatrick once again went from downtown for his fourth 3-pointer of the game to give Hapoel a 40-35 lead at halftime.
Maccabi ripped off a 12-2 run to get the third quarter underway as Derrick Williams scored his first points for his new club, while Nunnally and Reynolds each went from beyond the arc. Adams scored a couple of buckets, Amit Gershon went from deep but Roman Sorkin and Reynolds evened up the score at 56-56 at the end of the frame.
Nunnally and Reynolds kept filling the basket for Ioannis Sfairopoulos’s squad while Kilpatrick did the same for Oren Amiel’s team but Wilbekin with a pair of baskets, two triples from Iftach Ziv ans a layup finished off Jerusalem to send Maccabi into the finals.
