Ramla crushed Orman Genclik 97-63 to advance to the Round of 16 of the EuroCup women’s competition. The Israeli squad grabbed a 53-27 lead after the first half as Shira Haelion’s team cruised to the 34-point victory.
Betnijah Laney starred for Ramla and was just one assist shy of a triple-double with 22 points, 11 rebounds and 9 assists, Dewanna Bonner scored 23 points, Tiffany Mitchell added 21 points, Naama Shafir checked in with 12 points and 7 assists, Alex Cohen chipped in with 9 points while Maya Nesher made the most of her time on the court with a triple in the blowout win.
Next up for Ramla will be a one game Round of 16 clash which will take place between March 16-18 in one of four hubs and should they advance a quarterfinal matchup will take place during that same time frame. The Final Four is slated for April 9-11.
Alex Cohen told explained to The Sports Rabbi what led the team to the win, “We played great team basketball on both sides of the court and I think that’s what set us apart the last two games. It was really important to all of us to give our 100% effort to advance to the next round. Looking forward to March!
Cohen also spoke about two young Israelis May Nesher and Aleksandra Gitchenko who had the opportunity to both play and score as the game wound down, “Maya and Alex G came on the floor and did an amazing job in the minutes they were given. I was so happy and proud of them to both get on the board.”
