Brad Greenberg’s team comes into the clash after downing Sporting 86-81 in a tight battle as the Lisbon based squad used a 27-16 third quarter to go ahead with just ten minutes left in the game. However, intelligent and gutsy play by Patrick Miller, Tal Dunne and Lior Carreira helped Nes Ziona overcome the deficit to snatch the win despite being out-rebounded 48-31 and only shooting 3/22 from beyond the arc.
Patrick Miller and Wayne Selden each scored 17 points, Tal Dunne added 15 points, Jerome Meynisse put in 13 points whole Lior Carreira chipped in with 12 points in the win.
One of the key plays in the game was the inbounds pass after the final timeout with 20 seconds remaining and the score in favor of Nes Ziona by just 2-points, 83-81. The play worked like a charm that saw Lior Carreira score the insurance points and get fouled thanks o two quick passes as Nes Ziona used the full court.
The Sports Rabbi asked Brad Greenberg about the play and if it worked just like he had drawn it up in the timeout. “We were most concerned with getting it inbounded. We knew they would trap so the next aspect was to be spaced properly. They committed for a steal and Lior just made a good decision realizing he could get behind the defense. It wasn’t a specific play, just a basketball decision based on how aggressive they were.”
