Nes Ziona clinches playoff spot, Maccabi beats Holon, Beer Sheva inches closer to postseason – Israeli Basketball Highlights & Recaps


Nes Ziona just slipped by Maccabi Rishon Le’Zion 87-86 as Patrick Miller made a game saving block with just seconds remaining to secure the victory. In a tightly contested battle with a playoff spot on the line, Brad Greenberg’s Nes Ziona squad jumped out to a 53-38 lead by halftime. However, a furious 3rd quarter comeback by Guy Goodes’s team set up for a thrilling final frame that saw Noam Avivi have a chance to win the game with an easy bucket had it not been for Miller flying in just in time to tip the ball away and record the win.

Braian Angola led the way with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists, Miller added 14 points and Nimrod Levi scored 13 points in the win. Golan Gutt topped the Rishon scorers for the second game in a row with 21 points and Egor Koulechov chipped in with 17 points in the loss.

Maccabi Tel Aviv easily disposed of Hapoel Holon 86-65 at Yad Eliyahu as the defending champs extended their first place lead. Stefanos Dedas’s squad who played shorthanded kept the game close during the first twenty minutes, but the yellow-and-blue’s deeper bench paid dividends over the final two periods as Ioannis Sfairopoulos’s team scored the win. Ante Zizic scored 15 points, Angelo Caloiaro added 14 points while Scottie Wilbekin and Dragan Bender each scored 13 points in the win. Nate Sestina led Holon with 20 points as CJ Harris and Willy Workman scored 11 points a piece in the defeat.

Hapoel Haifa defeated Hapoel Jerusalem 97-85 thanks to hot shooting from beyond the arc to notch the win. The hosts raced out to a 49-38 lead by halftime, but the Reds came storming back in the third quarter to cut the lead just one however, Elad Hasin’s team dominated the last period to take the victory. Evans scored 26 points and added 9 assists, Jason Siggers scored 14 points and Rakeem Buckles added 12 points and 9 rebounds in the win. Suleiman Braimoh scored a career high 30 points and Idan Zalmanson scoured 17 points and grabbed 10 boards in the loss.

Hapoel Beer Sheva continued their winning ways as they notched a 92-81 victory over Bnei Herzliya. The southern reds shot well from long distance and dished out 26 assists with Amir Bell leading the way with 16 points and 8 helpers for Rami Hadar’s squad. Travis Warech added 18 points, Spencer Weisz scored 17 points and Netta Segal chipped in with 12 points in the win. Max Heidegger paced the hosts with 20 points and Yair Kravitz scored 18 points for Sharon Drucker’s team in the loss.

Hapoel Tel Aviv drubbed Nahariya 96-74 as Justin Tillman starred for a Reds team that dominated the boards to take the victory. After a close first half, Danny Franco’s team turned on the offense that saw five players finish the game in double digits to taketh win. Tillman led the way with 26 points and 16 rebounds, JP Tokoto added 18 points and Reggie Upshaw chipped in with 15 points. Jaron Blossomgame scored 34 points and Ido Davidi added 15 points in the defeat.
