Kobi Moyal signed with the New York Cosmos last week and spoke about his move to North America with SportsRabbi.com after spending last season with Beitar Jerusalem in the Israel Ligat Ha’Al Premier League. The midfielder, who also played for Sheriff Tiraspol of Moldova along with Maccabi Haifa in the past spoke about the Club’s history, representing Israel, goals and how the signing came about:
Signing with the Cosmos and the first few days with the Club:
“The Cosmos had wanted to sign me a number of times in the past and scouted me for a while via video. However, every time something else came up and I wasn’t able to make the move to New York. This time around I was in the United States on vacation after the Israeli league season and the Cosmos contacted me. Along with my agent we decided that this would be a good move for me personally and my career.”
Goals for the upcoming season:
“The Cosmos won the Championship last season and the goal for this coming campaign is to win the title once again. Miami is currently leading the league by a small margin and they are a very good club, but our goal is to win the championship.”
The Club’s rich history having has players like the great Pele and Israeli Mordechai Speigler:
“I am very familiar with the Club’s right history and the great players who have donned the Cosmos jersey. I hope that I can reach the standards today which they set during their time.”
Comparing his time abroad at Sheriff Tiraspol and now:
“There is a much bigger Jewish community in New York and that will help me acclimate quicker. Soccer in America is very different on a number of levels than that of Europe.”
Final thoughts:
“I will continue to strive and hope that I’ll be called up to the National Team. Wherever I go, I am proud to represent the State of Israel.”
