CSKA Moscow 93-81 Maccabi Tel Aviv
Maccabi fell to CSKA in Russia by 12-points, 93-81 as Sylvan Landesberg led the Yellow & Blue with 19 points while Victor Rudd adde 14 in the loss. Israeli youngster Itay Segev dropped 10 points on 4/4 from the field in 16 minutes but the team gave up 18 offensive rebounds to the hosts. Nando de Colo scored 29 points for the victors, Milos Teodosic dropped 11 points and dished out 8 assists while Kyle Hines picked up a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, 8 of which came on the offensive side of the court.
Ainars Bagatskis, Maccabi Head Coach:
“We were really worried about how we would play because we were playing against one of the best teams in Europe, one of the best offenses in Europe. For us it was the fifth game in nine days. We played without Andrew Goudelock. Some players played with injuries and I want to thank them. We started the game not so good with many turnovers. I told the players before the game the most important thing against a team like CSKA is to not hesitate, especially on offense. We did exactly the opposite. We started the game with a few turnovers and CSKA used that. After that we played better in defense and caught up in offense and at halftime we were back in the game. And then in the third quarter was some open shots, plus many free throws, but we missed them. And CSKA got the lead. The same was in the fourth quarter. The problem was with rebounds. 18 offensive rebounds for CSKA leaves almost no chance to be in the game.”
Itay Segev:
“We were close most of the game but couldn’t get over the hump and take the lead. We’re disappointed from the final score, but will try to take the positives ahead of a week with two home games. Personally, I’m happy to contribute in the EuroLeague and against a team like CSKA. I’m steadily finding my rhythm.”
Gaziantep 80-65 Ironi Nahariya
Gaziantep comfortably defeated Ironi Nahariya 80-65, however due to the Israeli team’s 96-75 win in Israel against the same side, Nahariya loves on in Europe. Andrew Rautins had 26 points, while Marcus Denmon also finished with 26 points for Gaziantep. Jonathan Skjoldebrand finished with 18 points, while Nick Faust scored 13 points for the losing Nahariya.
Ludwigsburg 84-82 Rishon Le’Zion
Rishon Le’Zion lost in a back and forth encounter, 84-82, against Ludwigsburg. Jack Cooley scored 20, while Kelvin Martin finished with 15 for Ludwigsburg. Shawn Dawson had 21 points, while Javon Mccrea scored 18 points for Rishon Le’Zion. The loss, coupled by the 83-66 defeat at home last gameday eliminated the Israeli team from European competition.
