Micic leads Hapoel Tel Aviv to victory over Valencia, Hapoel Jerusalem falls to Manresa

Hapoel Tel Aviv downed Valencia 100-93 as Vasilije Micic’s 15 third quarter points helped the Reds moved their record to 3-1 in Euroleague action. Elijah Bryant along with Antonio Blakeney and Johnathan Motley scored early and often for the visitors but Omari Moore, Nate Reuvers and Darius Thompson kept Valencia in the game. However, Micic’s tremendous third quarter along with key baskets by Chris Jones down the stretch closed out the game for the reds.

Micic scored 24 points, Blakeney added 17 points and Bryant scored 16 points in the win. Moore scored 22 points while both Reuvers and Thompson scored 13 points a piece in the loss.

Dan Oturu, Elijah Bryant and Vasilije Micic took control of the game early on for Hapoel Tel Aviv as Neil Sako tried to keep Valencia close, but Antonio Blakeney and Johnathan Motley found points to give the Reds a 27-18 lead after ten minutes of play.

Omari Moore and Nate Reuvers began to cut down the lead, Motley continued to control the inside while Blakeney did the same from the outside as Sako kept finding the bottom of the basket for the hosts to send Valencia into halftime down but just a pair of points 49-47.

Bryant and Micic began the second half with points, Brancou Badio and Reuvers countered while Darius Thompson started to fill the basket, but Micic scored from the inside and the outside while Bryant also found the bottom of the bucket to give Dimitrios Itoudis’s team a 79-70 lead after thirty minutes of action.

Bryant and Thompson traded baskets as the fourth quarter began, Chris Jones and Blakeney scored but Moore and Kameron Taylor responded the game close, Jones knocked down a triple and a deuce to close out the game for the Reds.

In EuroCup action, Hapoel Jerusalem fell to Manresa 101-94 as Alfonso Plummer’s final frame helped the hosts comeback from a double digit deficit to the close out win. The reds came out strong with Justin Smith, Jared Harper and Khadeen Carrington leading the way, but terrific fourth quarter play by Plummer, Hugo Benitez and Alex Reyes put Manresa in front late in the game as they took the victory. Smith scored 22 points, Harper added 21 points and Carrington scored 19 points in the loss. Plummer scored 23 points while Louis Olinde and Benitez each scored 14 points in the win.
