Maccabi Tel Aviv’s 5-game Euroleague winning streak halted by Bayern Munich 95-71

Maccabi Tel Aviv fell at Bayern Munich 95-71 as their five game Euroleague winning streak was snapped as Oded Katash’s team delivered one of its weakest performances of the campaign in Germany and dropping their record to 8-11 to complete the first round.

Oshae Brissett scored13 points, while the trio of Roman Sorkin, Jalen Hoard and T.J. Leaf all scored 9 points each in the loss while David McCormack scored 18 points, Vladimir Lucic added 17 points and Andreas Obst put in 15 points in the win.

The yellow-and-blue had scored no fewer than 228 points in their previous two games, 112 against Partizan Belgrade and 116 versus Ironi Kiryat Ata but in Round 19 of the EuroLeague they didn’t even reach a third of that total. In the opening quarter the visitors were still in the game, leading on three different occasions during the first five minutes, though by no more than two points each time. However, the things went downhill quickly when Lonnie Walker suffered what appeared to be a shoulder injury during the first quarter and didn’t return for the balance of the contest.

Without one of their top scorers, if not the top scorer on the roster, Maccabi struggled mightily to generate offense and were held to just 48 points over the final three quarters. In the second quarter they managed to stay relatively close and went into halftime down nine (50–41), but a 12–0 run by the hosts to open the second half blew the game wide open and Bayern went up by close to thirty points in the third quarter as Katash’s players were unable to recover and fell to defeat.

Maccabi Tel Aviv finished a grim evening by equaling its season-low point total in a EuroLeague game (71, also scored in the loss to Barcelona), with just six three-pointers on 25 attempts (24%) and 17 turnovers also a season high in the competition. They saw their five-game winning streak in Europe come to an end with their heaviest defeat of the season also marking only the fourth time the yellow-and-blue failed to reach the 80-point mark in EuroLeague play. The State Cup holders will have a continental double week coming up with a pair of games in Spain as they visit Barcelona and the Real Madrid.

Maccabi Tel Aviv Head Coach Oded Katash summarized the game, “Bayern Munich were the better team and deserved the win. From the start of the game, they were more aggressive than us and it looked like they wanted the victory more than we did. Obviously that’s not the case, but it just wasn’t our day, we lost our direction on the offensive end. We need to learn from this game. There are no easy games in the EuroLeague and you have to be 100% ready for every match.”

“It was a very important game for us, an important win,” Bayern Munich Head Coach Svetislav Pesic began. “For everybody, the fans, the players, the club it’s always important to win. But for me it’s more important how we win and on defense we stopped transition points from one of the best teams in the EuroLeague we played excellent.”

T.J. Leaf added, “We didn’t manage to execute our game plan, especially on the defensive end. We needed to stick to the game plan and play better and tougher, that’s all. We need to show more fighting spirit and desire.”

The game MVP David McCormack said, “It was a fun game, honestly. My confidence has definitely grown, but I couldn’t have done it without my teammates – great chemistry on the floor.
“It was a major win for us, to change the momentum and change our mindset. It was the perfect start to 2026 and I’m hoping to keep it that way.”
