Maccabi Tel Aviv slipped by RFS 2-1 as yellow-and-blue keeper Roie Mishpati made an 11th hour save off a penalty to preserve the win for the club’s second one this year. In a home game for Maccabi that was played in Idan Nachmias headed home the opening goal of the match as he nodded in a Weslley Patati free kick in the 16th minute. Roberts Savalnieks drew RFS even in the 52nd minute as he latched onto a through ball to even up the game ay 1-1, but roughly a quarter hour later, an almost identical play from the first goal saw Nemanja Stoic nod home another Patati free kick. However, that was’t the end of the game just yet for Zarko Lazetic’s team as Janis Ikauneks missed a penalty deep into second half injury time to keep the final as is.

“Dramatic? Yes, we have experience with that type of game already,” Maccabi bench boss Zarko Lazetic began. “It happened to us three times in 22 games that we conceded a penalty in the last minute of extra time, it’s a crazy situation but that’s football. The performance? There’s only one way you can play against a team like that, they were strong and disciplined, they also caused trouble for Galatasaray and PAOK.”
