Maccabi Tel Aviv sinks Hapoel Eilat 95-72 as Dorsey stars for Yellow & Blue

Maccabi Tel Aviv downed Hapoel Eilat 95-72 as Tyler Dorsey starred for the Yellow & Blue over the course of the second half to notch the win. Scottie Wilbekin, Omri Casspi and Angelo Caloiaro helped the hosts to an 18-0 run and double digit lead over the course of the first quarter. But Joe Ragland and Casey Prather along with Josh Nebo were able to cut the advantage down and pull even in the third quarter. However, Dorsey started heating up over the latter part of the game from downtown to secure the victory for the yellow-and-blue.

Dorsey led the way for Maccabi with 20 points going 5/8 from 3-point range, Wilbekin scored 17 points while Ante Zizic and Angelo Caloiaro each scored 14 points in the win. Prather was the game’s high scorer with 22 points, Joe Ragland added 15 points and 14 assists as Ben Carter chipped in with 11 points in the defeat.

Hapoel Eilat center Josh Nebo got the visitors on the board first with a pair of points as Casey Prather and Joe Ragland added buckets as well, but Angelo Caloiaro with a trio of baskets inside plus points by Scottie Wilbekin and Omri Casspi gave Maccabi a 10-9 lead midway through the first quarter. Ragland went from deep and added a layup but Yovel Zoosman scored a 3-pointer, Casspi and Ante Zizic added dunks while Caloiaro went from downtown as Maccabi raced off to a 16-0 run to end the frame up 26-14 after ten minutes.

Othello Hunter got points inside as did John Dibartolomeo while Tyler Dorsey went from outside for the yellow-and-blue and Jonathan Skoljebrand and Joaquin Szuchman found points for the Red Sea squad but the hosts remained in front 33-21 with 6:48 left in the second quarter. Ragland went from beyond the arc, Prather found points, Miron Ruina and Ben Carter scored off the glass but Wilbekin hit a floater in the lane to keep Ioannis Sfairopoulos’s team ahead. Carter and Ragland scored triples and Nebo went for an alley-oop to further cut the Maccabi advantage, however Casspi got the final points of the half to keep Maccabi in the lead 44-41.

Nebo and Ragland teamed up for another alleyoop to open the third quarter and Prather hit a jumper, but Zizic cleaned up a Wilbekin and then scored a mini-hook shot for Maccabi as they led 48-47 midway through the period. Prather scored off a fast break, Wilbekin nailed a corner 3-pointer, Hunter added points inside but Prather kept finding the bottom of the basket as the game was all knotted up a 51-51. Dorsey drilled a perfect 3-pointer and added a layup but Prather once again took matters into his own hands, literally as he put down a jam but Wilbekin went off the glass to give Maccabi a 63-59 lead after thirty minutes.

Dorsey and Wilbekin drilled triples to start the fourth quarter but Nebo put in another monster dunk but more points from Wilbekin widened the Maccabi lead to 71-61. Dorsey hit an in contested 3-pointer, Caloiaro scored a 3-point play, Dorsey put in a floater and yet another one from downtown to bump the yellow-and-blue advantage to 82-65 with 4:13 left in regulation time. Carter and Markel Brown found points but Zizic scored a putback, Dibartolomeo went from deep and Zizic put in another dunk as Maccabi wrapped up a 23-point win.
