Maccabi Tel Aviv fell to Real Sociedad 2-1 as Dor Turgeman’s late strike wasn’t enough to help the yellow-and-blue to the first points of their Europa League campaign. Jon Pacheco opened the scoring by heading home a corner kick in the 19th minute while Sergio Gomez doubled the advantage in the second half for a 2-0 lead. Turgeman pulled to within a single goal with an 81st minute marker but Osher Davida’s second yellow minutes later left Zarko Lazetic’s team with 10-men as they went down to defeat.

“Congratulations to Real Sociedad,” Lazetic began. “In the first half we were a little embarrassed, we gave them too much respect. In the second half we took over the momentum but unfortunately we didn’t score. We left a good impression again, but no points this time either. This is football, we will have to take the points in the next games. Getting goals from a set piece situations is part of the game, they have a very high quality team. I think we had enough chances, but they scored more. Every game is important and every game I try to put the best 11 on the field.”
