Maccabi Tel Aviv downed Alba Berlin 85-73 as the Yellow & Blue controlled the game for the entire 40 minutes of play. The Yellow & Blue broke away at the end of the first quarter with a quartet of 3-pointers from four different players as Tyler Dorsey and Chris Jones paced the team to a 22-2 run into the second frame to take control of the contest and cruise to the victory.
Tyler Dorsey went 5/7 from downtown good for 25 points, Angelo Caloiaro scored 16 points and Dragan Bender added 13 points in the win. Simone Fontecchio led Alba with 15 points while Jayson Granger recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 assists in the defeat.
Ante Zizic scored inside while Elijah Bryant and Angelo Caloiaro also picked up points for Maccabi Tel Aviv but Jayson Granger and Simine Fontecchio had the hot hand from the outside for Alba Berlin as the game was knotted up at 10-10 midway through the first quarter. Malte Delow went from deep as did Scottie Wilbekin, Tyler Dorsey, Dragan Bender and Chris Jones at the other end to give the Yellow & Blue a 24-17 lead after ten minutes.
Jones and Bender opened the second quarter with points while Dorsey and Caloiaro did as well as Maccabi went on a 10-0 run to start the frame and uno their lead up to 34-17. Caloiaro put in an Omri Casspi pass and then went on a fast break for more while Casspi sent the ball to Bender for points in the paint as Wilbekin polished the run off with another triple. Fontecchio with a pair of buckets tried to pull Alba closer before the end of the period but Maccabi took a 43-28 advantage into halftime.
Casspi began the third quarter with a 3-pointer and Wilbekin put in a floater but Ben Lammers scored 4 straight baskets and Johannes Theimann added a triple thanks to a quartet of assists by Granger to pull Alba to within 9 points, 48-39. Zizic and Granger traded baskets as Bender and Dorsey drilled triples to give Ioannis Sfairpoulos’s squad a 63-49 lead after thirty minutes.
Maodo Lo and Granger scored for the hosts but Zizic and Dorsey countered for Maccabi to keep their advantage intact while Dorsey once again went from deep to stay ahead 72-57 with 6:30 remaining in the fourth quarter. Bryant with a Eurostep 3-point play, Dorsey from downtown and Caloairo and Bender put in free throws to finish off a 12-point win.
