Maccabi Tel Aviv demolished ASVEL 93-62 to get back into the winning track and improve their record to 7-4 in Euroleague play. The French squad kept the game close early but the Yellow & Blue’s quality overwhelmed them the rest of the way as coach Ioannis Sfairpoulos’s team took the win.
Scottie Wilbekin and Jake Cohen led the way with 16 points, Nate Wolters scored 13 points, Yovel Zoosman added 11 points and 5 assists while Angelo Caloiaro returned to action with 9 points. Theo Maledon and Rihards Lomazs scored 10 points a piece in the defeat.
ASVEL grabbed a 2-point, 13-11 lead early on as David Lighty led the way for the French squad while Quincy Acy and Scottie Wilbekin answered for Maccabi. But baskets by Othello Hunter inside, Deni Avdija outside and a triple by Yovel Zoosman gave the Yellow & Blue a 20-17 advantage after ten minutes.
Zoosman hit another 3-pointer and then played facilitator as he fed Angelo Caloiaro for gorgeous dunk in transition forcing ASVEL to call timeout as Maccabi went ahead 25-19. Wilbekin reentered the game and nailed a triple but Rihards Lomazs and Ismael Bako tried to keep the visitors in the game. However, Wilbekin and Nate Wolters scored a layups as Ioannis Sfairpoulos’s team went into halftime with a 43-34 lead.
Wolters and Wilbekin scored layups to open the second half while Wolters hit a 3-pointer to increase the Maccabi lead to 52-40 midway through the third quarter. Zoosman hit another triple however, Livio Jean-Charles slammed home a mega dunk and Theo Maledon scored from long distance. But the Yellow & Blue stayed out in front as Wilbekin ended the third quarter with a trifecta to give Maccabi a 67-47 advantage after thirty minutes of play.
Caloiaro scored four points and Wolters hit a layup off an inbounds pass as Maccabi continued to pull ahead while Sandy Cohen III also scored his first points for the Yellow & Blue as the hosts ran away with a 93-62 win.
