Maccabi Haifa was eliminated from European play by Sabah 3-2 on penalties (6-6 on aggregate) as a heroic comeback from 3-0 down after the first leg wasn’t enough to see Barak Bachar’s team through to the the third round of UEFA Conference League play.

Dolev Haziza gave the Greens an early lead thanks to a Pierre Cornud cross in the 17th minute, but Pavol Safranko drew the hosts even at 1-1 half hour later. Lior Refaelov sent Frantzdy Pierrot a perfect ball off a free kick to give Haifa the advantage once again while Lorenco Simic bumped Barak the lead up to 3-1 in the 70th minute.

But just moments later Kaheem Parris cut the lead back to one goal however, the Greens came right back via Dean David to maintain the 2-goal advantage with a 4-2 lead in the 73rd minute as they searched for one more goal to even up the two legged tie. As the match hit the 90th minute, Pierrot found the back of the net to send the series into extra time all knotted up at 5-5 on aggregate.

Joy-Lance Mickels scored from a tough angle to give Sabah a one-goal lead in the 103rd minute but once again Haifa came right back and evened up the score with David’s second goal of the game sending the contest into penalty kicks. However, misses by Kenny Saief, Dia Saba and Pierrot sealed Haifa’s fate as their European campaign came to a crashing end with Sabah winning 3-2 on penalties.

Hapoel Beer Sheva downed Cherno More 2-1 (2-1 on aggregate) thanks to a brace by Holder Lopes to move into the third qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League. Lopes opened the scoring in the 25th minute when he headed home a Roie Gordana corner kick but Andreas Calcan found the equalizer less than ten minutes later. However, Lopes once again nodded in the winner in the 64th minute to send the southern reds to the next round where FK Mladá Boleslav will be waiting.

Maccabi Petach Tikva was demolished by Braga 5-0 (7-0 on aggregate) as they were eliminated from the UEFA Europa League and will now drop down to the third qualifying round of the Conference League where they will play Cluj as continental play is still a possibility.
