Maccabi defeats Radnicki 2:0, Hapoel Haifa draws, New Israel Nat’l Team Kits

1) Maccabi Tel Aviv defeated Radnicki 2:0 in the first leg of second round Europa League qualifying at the Netanya Stadium on Thursday July 26, 2018. Maccabi Tel Aviv will look to advance to the third round after the return leg next Thursday, August 2nd against Radnicki in Nis, Serbia. Icelandic striker Vidar Kjartansson scored a second half brace with the second goal coming on a penalty after he had been pulled down in the box.

Head Coach Vladimir Ivic looked ahead, “We just finished the first half of the game and the second half will be in a week. We must work hard and we have to be careful and try to fix some things which weren’t good today. We have the Toto Cup Sunday and then the second leg against Radnicki after that.”

2) Hapoel Haifa drew 1:1 against LH from Iceland in first leg second round Europa League qualifying action in Haifa. Haifa automatically qualified for the second round after winning the State Cup last season while LH beat Lahti in the first round to punch their ticket to a date with the Reds. After a back and forth first half which ended goalless, both teams picked up the pace as the visitor’s struck first in the 53’ via Eddi Gomes giving FH a 1:0 lead. However, just 12 minutes later substitute Sakis Papazoglou put Haifa on the board as the match ended in a 1:1 draw with FH holding an aggregate advantage due to the away goal. Next week, Haifa will visit Iceland as they’ll look to advance to the third round. – Doug Cahn

3) The Israel Football Association has unveiled their brand new Kits manufactured by Puma. Inspired by the 1970 World Cup appearance, the only time Isrral has played in the competition, the darker blue was replaced by the lighter “Techlet” blue color. The contract with Puma will run for the next 4 years.

4) The Israel Basketball Association announced the expanded roster for the Israel National Basketball Team for the September window games against Georgia and Germany – Gal Mekel, Omri Casspi, Guy Pnini, Amit Simhon, Joe Alexander, Jake Cohen, Alex Tyus, Nimrod Levi, John Dibartolomeo, Bar Timor, Tamir Blatt, Alex Chubrevich, Raviv Limonad, Tomer Ginat, Rafi Menco, Idan Zalmanson, Ben Altit, Golan Gutt, Itay Segev, Egor Koulechov, Adam Ariel, Joaquin Szuchman, Shawn Dawson, Karam Mashour, Iftach Ziv, Yovel Zoosman, Deni Avdija.
