Maccabi Tel Aviv walloped Hapoel Haifa 108-73 as the yellow-and-blue did as they pleased from the beginning of the contest and opened up a double digit lead to notch their 17th league win in a row. Roman Sorkin starred for Head Coach Oded Katash’s squads with 25 points while Jasiel Rivero scored 17 points and Rafi Menco added 15 points in the win. Amir Gershon laced the hosts with 15 points in the loss. Maccabi will welcome Hapoel Beer Sheva on Saturday night at Yad Eliyahu at 20:40.
“We played our pace and we were focussed which allowed us to make this game easy,” Katash said. “Some players played more than we thought they were going to after Rafi Menco’s injury. As for Roman not playing against Baskonia, just because a player doesn’t play doesn’t mean we don’t trust him. He was injured and it takes time for a player to get back into the rotation. John Dibartolomeo who has been injured is slated to play on Saturday.”
“I expected more focus,” Hapoel Haifa head coach Guy Goodes began. “We turned over the ball a bunch at the start of the game and Maccabi did what they do. We have to look ahead now as we weren’t in this game from the get go.”
Roman Sorkin spoke about his performance in the club’s win, “We have to continue playing our style no matter who we play this season and we did that in this game. The centers and big men really dictated the offense and there are plenty of pick and rolls that we were able to execute.”
