Maccabi Tel Aviv would have liked to been able to fast forward through the second half of their 116-87 loss to Baskonia because nothing went right for the Yellow & Blue in Vitoria as their recored dropped to 4-2 in Euroleague play. There was only one team on the court in their game as the hosts jumped out to a quick 35-20 lead after just ten minutes of play and then went up by 21 at halftime as they never looked back to send Oded Katash’s team to the heavy road defeat.

Joan Pennaroya’s squad held the upper hand in almost all statistical categories, rebounds 39-27, assists 30-16, 3-pointers 15-10 and free throws 19-11 in an absolutely dominant performance.

“We were not there from the first minute,” Maccabi coach Oded Katash said. “We just let them play their game. We knew they are a really dangerous team and just let them play. We were not concentrated from the first minute. Not a nice experience for us, we have to remember that.”

“I think we played a good game,” Baskonia coach Joan Pennaroya said. “It is important to win a game at home. Great atmosphere, I am happy for the win. The message is: we have another game on Sunday.”

Game MVP Markus Howard also looked back at the game, “It is not different than any other game, honestly. Best fans – the passion, the great atmosphere they provide each and every game for us. They are a big reason why we get wins like tonight, so super appreciative of our fans coming in night in and night out. I think our defense and our defensive rebounding [were the key factors].”
